Well this is the third day we have had drama here. I'd like it to PLEASE go away.

After I fed the dogs, I was putting on my slippers to make sure they had clean cool fresh water in front and got a huge bite on my foot. I swear it felt like my foot was bitten in half. I pulled my foot out of the slipper and there was a big nasty looking spider in it.

So I start to panic knowing how many poisonous spiders we have here and it looking like one. I start researching online and I swear there really are no sites that were being helpful Trying to find native spiders for Nevada with many dead ends.

Troy keeps asking me how I feel. I feel like I am trying not to panic when I am reading all the ones it may be are necrotic bites. Trying to stay calm some more. FREAKING OUT inside. Knowing our brand new hospital is like Boudreaux and his buddy back east all the jokes are about. We don't even have any surgeons.

After about 30 minutes my foot is throbbing and Troy is still asking me how I feel. Still trying not to panic.

I find a picture of one that is native here and Troy doesn't think it's it. But I insist another look at it in the baggie in the freezer. I have learned you never flush anything that bites, you freeze it in a bag for identification. And yes, it is the best possible thing that could have bit me.

A Camel Spider. This one was a baby thank goodness. And what's funny is I always stomp on my slippers before I put my feet in them, but this time I was in a hurry.

Yes, those pics of the HUGE ones over seas were ones and on this link you will see the kid holding one with some bbq tongs and a pic of one by his feet. Thats out here in Vegas area. It's how I know this one was just a baby. I would have fainted if one of the big ones bit me.

I can at least sleep now without feet I was going to wake up with my feet rotted off....

BTW it hurt like bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep..

Yikes! I am so glad you weren't kilt!

Against my better judgement, I clicked on that link to see the spiders. They are, indeed, the stuff nightmares are made of. Thanks for sharing, NOT! ;-)

Well, the story about the huge Camel Spiders is a hoax. The spiders exist, they just aren't huge, don't jump yards, etc.

http://www.snopes.com/photos/bugs/camelspider.asp

I don't think many people realize that a spider does not have to be poisonous to be deadly. You can get a horrible infection from a house spider, jumping spider, etc...I have 3 friends who have almost lost hands or an arm because of the infection from a spider bite. All three had to be on IV antibiotics of WEEKS!!!! Take care of your bite!!!

It's always a good idea to shake out shoes before putting them on, especially in the Southwest. I got stung by a scorpion at work (the none poisonous ones STILL sting and it hurts like a bee sting) and learned the hard way.

OUCH Jenn...I feel for you. I hope it heals fine and you're A-OKAY!!!

We are tick and flea free out here so that should counter all the evil things, Black widows here are as common as house flies.

I went to steam some king crab legs on the stove and came out to check on them and saw a black widow running across the counter. Guess the steam brought it out EEEEEEEEEEEEK!

Daddy long legs are allowed to live and are nicely escorted outside. They are the good spiders who do nothing but eat bad bugs, do not bite us and no worries. ALL others MUST die if inside or near our animals.

The pics of them in vegas are real, they do get 5 inches which is about the size in that pic. But I can tell you if one that size of 5 inches pinched me like this little tiny one did, it would have taken off my toe. It was unbelievable the bite it gave.

It seems a tad sore today but fine.

Troy says he would have been fine if it were him yeah right LOL He would have screamed like a girl I bet.

moving from Ohio to Tennessee was a eye opener so many new bugs! if it big its dead in my book I stomped a huge spider once and it exploded in babys I really nearly flipped out and sprayed the can of rade till nothing moved

but we also have the black widow and brown recluse and cement spiders there huge.
plus we have wasps that that.... well lets say some are as long as on average pinky finger.and one is deadly if it stings has killed people that normally don't have an allergey to stings.

and did you know that a daddy long leg is very toxic? but there teeth can't break skin thats what I've heard any way

feel better Jenn !

Oh yeah Daddy long legs are very poisonous just not harmful to us or our dogs/cats = )

We also have scorpians, vinagaroons nad much more creepy crawlies which I just get freaked out and scream, "TROY BUG!!!!!" and he has to come kill them before I start to flip out.

Ekkkk!

JennLM

they are poisonous but can't bite us (too little a mouth) so are very safe for humans and dogs/cats. I save them too, they can live outside.

Glad to hear you're feeling better, Jenn.

We get all of those nasty things here: black widows, brown recluse spiders, scorpions, tarantulas . . . .

JennLM

I had them where my ranch was north of SanLuis Obispo, down the street where they did film Arachnaphobia LOL

When it was mating season, you would see them cross the road and they did the funniest thing. When you drove over (not on) them, they would duck down unttil you drove past, pop back up and keep walking.

Yes, if one snuck up on me I would call it names and scold it, but you just take them outside. I never had any issues with any of them. And almost always did stay out of the house, unlike scorpians.

CarolU

Yeah, they cross the road up in the pass in summer when it rains. We have had several as pets and always let them go again. Very nice, fuzzy crawly pets, AND they eat other bugs! Wish they lived at this elevation, but they don't.

Okay, I'll admit that tarantulas aren't so terribly icky . . . EXCEPT in the kitchen. There's nothing quite like looking down and seeing a tarantula crawling across your bare foot.

Tarantulas are fuzzy but they make me itch like crazy...

I think the spiders are forming a mob. After I loaded Liberty and sent her on her way, I started to walk into the house and felt plural eyes on me.

I looked up and the only way into the house inside has a huge Wolfspider ready to pounce me.

You know the game "Wack a Mole"? Well I played Whack a Spider. Grabbed the broom and flicked it off the ceiling, hunted it down and escorted it outside..in a million pieces.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! Are they trying to give me heart palpitations???

With Troy gone I had to be brave with hysterics.

Jenn, glad you're feeling better.

When I lived in Yuma, AZ I was bitten by a brown recluse. Not a fun thing to go through....
