BID just means twice a day.
A kilogram is just a hair over 2.2 pounds (that's two and two tenths), so I really question whether you'd want to use as much as that formula implies. (A 1000 lb horse would be roughly 450 kilograms . . . which would mean between 13 and 14 tablets . . . twice a day . . . .)
I'd call the vet's office to be safe.

We used 5 of the generic on our 750 pound mare and 850 pound stallion with no ill effects and the hives went away and the mare's coughing decreased. I'd ask the vet also though.

I've been using Benadryl liquid for two years on my mare....about 800 pounds....she gets about an ounce twice a day on her feed....can tell in the afternoon when she's due another dose.....it REAlly helps with the itching and watery eyes and runny nose.
she has all types of food and mold, etc. allergies. have used this most of the summer and she doesn't need it after a frost. Your vet can tell you over the phone if you have worries. Good luck, this allergy, itchy stuff is the pits.

As I posted elsewhere before on this board, I give my QH gelding generic Benedryl for flybite dermatitis...which is, of course, an allergy to fly bites. I keep him on it most of the summer, and I buy it at Sam's Club...400 tablets for something like 3.28. I believe they are 25 mg. tablets. I've used it on a couple of my horses with good results. Him I give six tablets a day in the morning feed. He shows no ill effects from it and it relieves the itching. I had a mare with a reoccurring pus discharge from one nostril last winter, like a sinus infection, and it helped...I gave her four tablets in her morning feeding as she is smaller than the gelding. Ultimately we did have to put her on Uniprim, an antibiotic, however, to knock out the infection.
On another board I saw where one woman was giving her QH ten tablets a day...but she wrote that it was giving him a groggy effect. I don't see that in my gelding. Hope this helps.

thanks I gave her 8 tabs last night (the 25 mg) and she was still bumpy this morning..She did seem a little tipsy when I turned her out..my vet is away until Sunday..I have left a message (didnt want to call the 'emergency vet' for this)
Carol what is the human dosage of the pills you give? 200 mg seems like a lit for a diphenhydramine..but I dont take then ..

Usual human dosage is 25 -50 mg, but in extreme cases 100 mg may be given.

If you mean what do the directions indicate for an adult human dosage, two tablets. I myself only can take one tablet...I react severely to flea bites which we had an epidemic of earlier this spring, so I take Benedryl to combat the reactions.
I am pretty sensitive to drugs though...if I were to take two, I'd be zonked for most the day... ;-)
Maybe I'd better take a walk out to the barn to just check on what mg. each pill is though...maybe I'm wrong at 200 mg.
Just for you, Abejita....if I don't come back, you'll find my bleached bones out in the sun... ;-)
Wowzer...good thing I looked...each Benedryl caplet is 25 mg. Two would be 50 mg. I'll correct my last post!
