I am watching this thread on HC about other gaited breeds that have reining in their show line ups.....
Something maybe Pasos should think about more seriously?

I wonder how a class like this would do at the Gold Cup.

Reining is the reason I looked into buying Peruvians instead of Paso Finos. I really enjoy training and showing reining and it's loads of fun and really shows the athleticism of our breed.

I had the people at Mile High set a few years ago to put Reining in their show and have a few patterns that I've drawn up to accomidate a fino board in the middle of the arena. The best idea would be instead to have freestyle reining, with required movements and some freechoice movements, and let the competitors figure out how to deal with the board themselves. They did Freestyle Reining in Colorado's fun show this spring, and I believe they had a few entries.

Reining is a direct descendent of the Mexican Vaqueros training contests they had 100 years ago. They are part of our heritage. These are true contests of horsemanship. There really isn't much more fun then riding a well trained Reining horse.
