Organized trail rides....like we USED to have...and to participate in the PFHA ride program where we keep track of who all went.

Showing doesn't much interest me anymore. The reasons are #1 judging, and #2 costs.

It seems as if the economy is really keeping people home here this year. Its not at all like it used to be, when a group of us would ride together about twice a month on an organized ride.

In fairness...I've been down this season with my knee.... but we just haven't had many trail rides in our area (southern Colorado) posted on our website. I have had a few members call me inquiring about having a ride... and thats about as far as it gets. I have not had people email or call to have me post a ride here on the website....

I long for the "good old days" when we would do theses rides, and possibly rent a place for an over-night ride....the last time we did that was
4 or 5 years ago (?)..... But even an all-day ride would be great...

Guess I better "get back on the horse" here as soon as I can! I'm hoping to this weekend.

P.S...I was a bit surprised after I voted...that 37% of us are lookin' for those trail rides! :D

My regional is fairly active. But I have not been able to participate in a single thing. All the activities take place in the northern part of the state, too far for me to go by myself. Except the show in Hattiesburg this weekend. I will be going to that. But since I don't show, it is just a sit and watch thing.

My region does most of those things - but ,with no trailer handy - I can usually only audit clinics -
I do wish they would have more of a presence at the Midwest Horse Fair in April , since they have been having the Regional's at the same venue in July in Madison WI .

I am actually in the process of organizing a Region-sponsored trail ride, but have found out that we woud need to get insurance......any idea what kind is needed an how much we might be expected to shell out for it?

Our Region already took a hit with our last show due to the flooding in NYS.......

Anyway - the ride will go one, either as a sponsored ride or a 'Y'all COME'! Already working on the PR angle - left a message today for the person to talk to about press coverage etc.....

Piedmont does a really great job with activities but many are pretty far. But we're also close to the GA region so there are more things to do here than when we were in FL. But in FL we had horse and paso fino owners right up the street which was wonderful. We love the trail rides and fun shows

I thought Regions had to always have an insurance policy in effect, then you add 'riders' to it..Like MD has their liability insurance always in effect...and each activity you get a rider saying that this event taking place on such and such a date at such and such a place is covered..That is how the Pony Club did it for using the arena this past winter. The picked a start and end date and named the boss and the business as insured while being used by pony club ..

I have to say I am a member of the Mason Dixon region and they are really doing a great job up here. they have had a few clinics this year in different areas of the region, they have been easy to work with and very open to ideas. I would like to see more promotional things geared toward converting non Paso people. I am a firm beliver that the only horse people who do not own pasos have never riden one. I am the president of another paso club (Appalachian Paso Fino Horse Club) We have 30 some members from PA, WV, OH, and VA although everyone is welcomed. This October we are going to try to have a "Paso Fair" as I am calling it. We are going to get together local vendors, and hopefully some Paso Tack vendors, as well as owners with horses to give test rides, and give mini demos, to show the versitility of our breed, and to give the general public the opportunity to ride a paso without feeling any pressure.

I think by doing this we can better promote the breed then trying to do it individually. for example I have 26 horses at my farm, all beautiful breeding stock. Only 2 are trained, one is not very smooth and the other is my Fino Mare but she is very tempermental so to avoid major meltdowns I only ride her. So as of right now I really do not have a good test ride horse, and some others may have great horses to test ride but no stock for sale so we are going to pool our resources. Sounds like a great idea huh?! We'll see
