I tried the miracle groom or whatever the stuff is and it didn't do the job. I've tried regular washing and a couple of other shampoos. Tail is still orange from the rust in the soil. Now what????

Wash it in Chlorax gel cleaner, then follow with a good horsey shampoo and conditioner. Works good on white feet too :-?
Orvis soap, followed by conditioner.
I haven't found anything yet that Orvis won't get out. It is drying, though, so I would follow with conditioner (though not as drying as bleach). I'm sure you've already tried the "color enhancing" shampoos, such as "white n brite"? They're great, but if you have serious mud, sometimes the Orvis is much easier. You can leave the "White n brite" type shampoos on for at least 10 min and they are much more effective.

for white legs i remember making a paste out of Bon Ami and water. brushing onto the white, and when dried then brush it off.
to make tails white i used to use a shampoo that was a deep purple. can't remember the name of course, but it worked great.

There is that blue shampoo they make for grannies with white hair. Just don't leave it in too long, or you'll get blue instead of white.
