Dante by the fence today...I can hardly believe how tall he is...I do believe he will end up 15.1 or 15.2HH...Sultan is 15HH plus 1/2"...and Dante is only TWO...his mother was 15.2HH though....

I love that yeller horse...and I'm so glad they get along sooo well..One day, both will be tied to my trailer after a trail ride...side by side...getting along FINE...behaving like "brothers"..... and not like enemies...its those very good dispositions that make for stud horses that get along..
I suppose you can tell, I can't wait to start that yeller horse come spring....when he will be three...

Terry, those a great! So much fun to watch boys being boys! LOL

To show you how different it is around here, my alpha male, Diablo, stood and guarded the mares (Zar and Rosie) and sent Buddy and Santiago off along the fence line to 'chase off' the visiting horse. It was TOO FUNNY...what a woos!

Your boys are SOO pretty. Sultan is just awesome and Dante is getting that way. Paprika is the ingredient in the coat color preservative, so you could add that to his diet and see if it stops the fading.

Now...how did you get such long green grass? It is August you know, and all is supposed to be brown, burnt, and gone.

I agree CarolU...Sultan is the better horse...(for now!) Got to give Dante another year...then he will blossom...right now he just looks like a "kid"...

Grass? Look closely..its about 50% grass and 50% WEEDS!
But you are right...normally it would be much browner. We do have a stream and wetlands on the property where it stays very green...but not in this pasture!

Generally..stallions don't tryto "kill" other stallions. I have always kept mine either together or side-by-side. In New Mexico, I kept three all together. It always goes the same way...the senior stallion proclaims the kingdom. The underling stallions bow to the king. There is posturing and threats, but rarely ever do they actually challenge each other. Each knows its own place.

Its when humans get involved and keep stallions in "solitary confinement" that stallions think they have to get all territorial and fight. I like mine to all "get along". They learn best to get along by the examples and "teachings" of another horse.

The true King here ...is actually a gelding...the ten year old gelding who raised all three of my stallions. Now him, they respect utmost! He is bigger than all of them in size, which helps the "bluff" card.

Terry, I hate to say this, but Sultan looks far too vicious to be put in with any other horses. If I were you, I'd ship him here. Mojo will teach him some manners. Yes, for his own good, I think you should send Sultan here, NOW!

Nice try Barb! Why don't you let me get Dante started this spring...then you fly down, and we ride together, you on Sultan...and do the LARGO race to Pikes Peak!!! Sultan has an awesome largo... THEN..we can both be QUEENS of the peak!!!

Hey MG's...how is Dante's sis Primavera..."Vera" doing?

Terry,

I really liked what you said about horses needing to learn from other horses. We think in terms of hiring trainers and "working" with the horses that we forget that so much of their education is learned from their own kind.

I watched a special on elephants that really effected me. In an effort to relocate and save as many elephants as possible a conservation group killed off the parents and took the baby elephants to a protected area. They thought the elephants would mature fine without parental guidance.

When the elephants reached puberty the were mating too young and were showing violent tendacies that no one had seen before. They were hunting down rhinos and large animals and killing them (these teenage elephants) in what appeared to be for sport. They were not following any of the normal elephant patterns.

The park rangers, in an attempt to change the gang like mentality of the group, took out the leader and shot him......the gang leader's sister stayed by him the entire time. Instead of calming the group they were on a full rampage through the park and a new violent leader took charge of the delinquent group.

Just as they were debating calling the move a complete failure and shooting the entire herd, they decided to try one last ditch effort to save them. Huge trailers pulled into the park with adult elephants from another park. The transformation looked almost immediate......those big moms and dads took charge of those teenagers and order was restored. The violence ended as soon as the parents arrived. Even the mating stopped.

I was all misty at the end of the show. It was such a humbling thing to see that we are so limited in what we understand about animals.

Your comment about your stallions touched me the same way. It's a beautiful thing to see people working WITH the nature of their horses instead of against it. :D

Pasomom,

So glad to hear that others saw that documentary. I share that story all the time and some of my friends groan when they hear me start it....lol...oh, no, not the elephant story again. I can't help if it moved me.

Love the first one!!! Great pictures of beautiful boys!!

Our stallions also stay together with no problems

"Vera" aka Lula is doing great. She was fantastic at cowboy mounted shooting on Sunday. It was her first time having a 45 shot off her back and she didn't spook once. Earplugs do help though.

Her full sister, Cora AKA Silken is doing great also. We're about to saddle her up and ride her some now that she's calmed down. She is tall and I think still growing. I haven't sticked her yet but I think she's even taller than Arwen but Arwen is a year younger and outweighs her probably by 100 pounds easily. Arwen is a brute!!
