Just a little poll. ;-)
edited to say:
Please list your reasons in order of importance. ;-)

For me, it's a tie between....
Showing my horse, and meeting Paso friends. Seeing the BEST pasos in the country is next. I have seen many of the stallions compete, just not always in the same arena. ;-) And it will be interesting to see who has improved since Spectrum. 8-) Who brought it in the last few months....

I'm not going this year...probably never again. I come home too depressed. Maybe when/if things change, but I don't see this happening.

I'm going to a FOSH show instead, and showing both Zar and Rosie.

I will miss seeing my friends at Nationals though, so you all have a great time and dont' buy too much stuff.

I go mostly to see all my friends...(some have moved to Fla. so I only get to see them there)....and to see all the wonderful pasos, to see all the goodies at the vendors, and to just have a wonderful time...I would pick this as a vacation well before I would go anywhere else.... :rearing

It's our vacation too. We go to ride in the largo race to promote largo horses, to eat great food at the little restaurant near the arena, to sit on the porch and watch all the great horses going in and out of the area, to eat Paula Nalley's great biscuits and sausage gravy, to chat with friends and meet new ones and to ride our horses a couple of times a day and just hang out in the barn and chat.

YOu should put this one too. I am not going because they have the show in the corner of america. So it would cost a ton of money and 2 days of travel 2 weeks of my time to try to get in a class of 40 horses. LOL

Did I see you at the Vegas show Adam? I believe that show was on your corner of America. ;-)

My first nationals was in 1987. Last time was 2002. I have no interest in going because once you really start to sit back and watch you can see just how political the placings are, and well that just takes the fun out of it.

Its actually quite sickening.

Its not who has the best horse, its well ya know...........

I don't know. I pretty much figured out that was the way it was until Spectrum. When my Championship class came and I watched the whose who of Pasos enter my class. I thought the judges wouldn't even see me. But we took Reserve Champ, and the Champion was also not one of the elite in the class either. And it isn't because my name is getting out there more....they still kick my butt outta the classes when Tequila acts up. ;-)
I'm not saying it never happens, but miracles do happen sometimes.

I didnt go because my 2 arnt ready for showing. And that show is still far away. I know its been talked about before about moving nationals like they use too every few years. But that wont happen. Someday i will be well to do and will take horses there. Next year i am flying to watch. The national show use to move around so it was easier for all to come. Now it doesnt and now there are alot more of us around the country.

I'm not going...but I sure would if I could...and the reason would be to connect up with friends AND to hopefully meet more BB people I haven't met already...so we could all sit together and watch the classes like we did in 2002...that was great!

I go to take photos and video of my favorite horses, to walk through the barns, to attend the sales (my favorite)! To buy STUFF..tack, T-shirts, "Stuff".....

I do agree with CarolU though..it was kind of depressing to see horses in the barns that looked so depressed, tails to the doors, heads hanging....

BUT...I must say...seeing Prometido made my trip...seeing him ridden, seeing him in his stall with a happy attitude, petting him... There were a few others that appeared content... but so many that had the "get away and don't touch me" look....depressed...

I HOPE to go just to see people I know, meet new people and get a feel for showing as I hope to show my young'un one day.

However, my chances of going are iffy because, even though I'm only a 5 hour drive, it's nearly impossible to find someone to take care of my farm for more than a day or two. I find that someone usually gets skipped at feeding time or two that don't get along end up together or the dogs don't get let out or the goat doesn't get put up...it's always something! And I worry myself sick about it.

If I can find reliable farm help, I'll be there. And if anyone knows someone in my area who wants to trade board or have riding privileges in exchange for help, send 'em to me!

There are two reason I am going for four days... I want to watch my competition in some of the classes and to meet the wonderful friends I have made through this and other forums.

Cheers,
James
