Every year about this time I get concerned about hay. The place where we board don't seem to be very knowledgeable about hay and last year we almost got kicked out because I complained. They informed me that they now have a source in NY (don't know exactly where) that will give them a semi full of hay for about $2.50/bale and charge $1.50/mile, if they buy it now! They said it was pretty decent! Hmmm. I'm very concerned as it sounds too good to be true. Can this be true?! I'm afraid that it will be full of barbwire, weeds and critters. As that has happened in the past from buying at auction. Does anyone have any connections for good grass hay in the NE area? Thanks. Sharon L.

We are paying $2.20 for a small square bale of timothy hay here in upstate NY. We have to pick it up.

I pay $1.50-$2.00 per small bale of EXCELLENT grass hay. Out of a year, I may find 1 bale that needs to be tossed.

Thanks Barb and Jodi. Maybe its not such a bad deal. I have no other option but to wait and see what they bring. If it is too bad we will probably move our horses for the winter. So hard to stand by without CONTROL! Keep trying to talk Colette into buying a nice little place with a few acres! :D Sharon L.
