Hi there Paso Lovers,
Could someone help me? I own a beautiful Paso Fino mare, which I bought when she was 1,5 years old. I bought her from a eldery man who has died since. I looking for the farm where she was bred. Her mother came to Holland in 1995.
Maybe someone will know looking at the Dam and Sire
sire: contrafuego la Estrella (21,358)
dam: Sucesora La Estrella (11,197)
I hope someone can help me!

That's where her sire and dam came from. If you give me a name of the mare, I can look up to see if they bred her or not.
BTW...I would LOVE to see some pics of her...she's got some of my favorite lines!
BTW..welcome to the board! :D

Thank you very much for your nice and quick replies.
My mare was born in the nethelands, Sucesora de la Estrella was sold to the netherlands and she came over ''pregnant''. Her name on the registration says; Deborrah (I call her rosita). I am looking for the farm where she was bred because I am looking for a good stallion because I would love to have a foal with her. I do not know a lot about breeding and her bloodlines so I am looking for advice. She is a very high strung horse and very sensitive so I am looking for a stallion with a very calm nature.
thanks again I will look up the website

Are you planning to import semen? There are many stallions here in the states that should fill the bill for you. I can think of several.
After disposition, what are you looking for? Size, Color?
Are you planning to show or just trails?

You can see your mares full pedigree here
http://pasoregistry.com/db/Tree.asp?ID=95826
According Paso Registry she has no offspring, but they don't show the last three years.
My guess is Alvaro Iriarte bred Sucesora then shipped her. Startown stables uses "la Estrella" as their farm's suffix for all foals born there so both parents are from their farm.

Dear Lori,
Yes I am thinking of importing semen. There are a few stallions in Germany (I think) but as I think Rosita is really special (I am probably not very objective!) I would like to find a stallion that fits her lines and have nice foal.
I do not have a colour I favour. As all of her breeding shows chesnut I assume I will be hard to breed another colour. I do not know how big she is in hands but I would like to have a big stallion to get a bigger foal. I only do trailriding there is no competition in the Netherlands. To be honnest I do not think there are more Paso Fino's here. Her mother got sold to Germany.
I am so happy with your reply and that your are willing to help, thanks very much.
Please excuse me for my english and writing errors
Kind regards Mirjam

Those lines would be compatible w/many different lines. She even has a touch of Puerto Rican blood back on the dams side. 8-) You could go w/ a PPR stallion or one w/some PR blood.
I'll go ahead and say any of the Coral LaCe offspring usually have good temperment and size. And we have several folks on the forum w/his sons. Maybe they will post some pix for you on this thread. :?:
Also, there are some folks w/Pure Puerto Rican stallions if you would like to go that route.
How is your mares gait? Is there anything you'd like to correct or enhance in her offspring? Looking for smoother? Faster, tighter? more extension?

welcome mirjamruby
You are doing fine with your english. Some of us speek english all the time and still can't spell. So, no need in worring about your english.
Anyway, from what I have learned, and I am sure if I am wrong someone will correct me, Paso Fino range between 13 - 15.2 hands.
If you don't have a measure stick, you can use your hand to come up with an approcament height of your horse. All you have to do is spread you fingures apart with the tip of your pinky from the top of the withers to were your thumb falls is one hand. Then place your pinky were your thumb is and move down the shoulder and the leg repeating and counting each hand till you come to the bottom of the hoof. If I am wrong about this someone will correct me on that as well.

Well i guess i will be the first to post a Coral bred stud. This is Legado de MiLe a Coral LaCE grandson and a Cantante de Omego son. They do not come any kinder or sweeter then him.

I saw the lines for your filly and after speaking with Alvaro Iriarte Contrafuego was a good producing stallion for boys and contrasucesor was a good producing stallion for girls. He owned both of those stallions and were imported from Colombia.
I guess before giving you my opinion on what stallion to use, I would ask what are your pplans for this filly? Is she for show or for your own personal use on trails and parades? If for show, what type of gait are you looking to achieve? Classic fino, perfromance or pleasure? That would help in deciding what stallion to breed to.
Also what are your fillies' movements like? Is she low, mid, or high action in the front? Does she need help with her rear drive or quietness of croup? would you be breeding for color? If so, solid or paint or color with a creme gene?
Breeding is a process not to be taken lightly given that it costs just as much money to keep a bad as a good one.
Cheers,
James

Dear James,
Thank you very much for your reply. Kerry already told me a lot about her lines and that was very helpful it even helps with handling Rosita now.
I know absolutely nothing about breeding and paso fino lines or for that matter the different diciplines. I go for trailrides with her and sometimes I ride in the arena at home. All I know that someone told me Rosita is show bred. Which I is true because she is very different from other paso's I rode in America (gait and caracter). Her gait is very 'tight' and very pronounced (showy). She makes a lovely riding horse she is very very smooth and moves so fast without you feeling it. My other horse who is very fast cannot keep up with her in a normal walk. Al heads turn when you take her for a ride. Very Spanish!
Anyway ofcourse there have been problems with her in the past - only now at 10 years it is safe to take her for a ride (never alone though!). She very sensitive - never had a horse so sensitive. She could get fits and they were quite dangerous when rding on the road (on the other hand - nothing frightens her, she nevers spooks). Nothing had to happen but she could suddenly get 'crazy' unreachable and very upset (trembling all over). She still gets exited very easily (when she does not get her way) and does not tollerate any legpressure.
That is why I am looking for a bigger stallion with a relaxed nature, ofcourse he must be a wonderful riding horse with a lot of Brio (I do like that in a horse). But then again I do not know how much of the gaits will pass on from a stallion. If the nervousness runs in Rosita's lines it might be better to change? I do not want to loose her gaits but I suppose she could be less showy (tight) but if that decides the comfort of rinding I would like to keep it like that.
In rereading this I realize I would like to breed a horse like Rosita again only a bit bigger and a bit less sensitive.
Thanks again your for your help.
Kind regards Mirjam

This is Marco del Padre. He is double Coral Lace and his grandsire Ilusion de Costa was a fino champion. He is 15 hands, smutty buckskin.

I must mention Prometido de Selecta. He is a great fino stallion still showing in the ring. He has a wonderful disposition and seems to throw that, along w/some good size.
Barbwire has one of his offspring that she trail rides in NYC. Her boy is about 15. hands and calm and cool headed. I rode him in the NYC Puerto Rican day parade this year and he was steady as a rock. 8-)

Have you spoken to Wendy Jeffery in England (a little closer to you)?
She has several Paso Finos and at least 3 stallions. Check out her webpage if you haven't already...

I sold a horse (Dante, gelding, pic below) to her last year and found her very caring and professional to deal with.

Looking at your mares pedigree, I have a mare whose sire is Contra-Sucessor . She must be a lot like your mare, very tight gait, smooth as silk, but VERY sensitive. She is not spooky when riding, but if you are on the ground and do something she doesn't like ( doctoring her is something else) she gets very upset. I also have a gelding that is almost 20 out of Trobador. He is absolutely the SMARTEST horse I have ever owned, well gaited, more Largo than Fino, and he is my rock that I rely on for everything. He is a line-back dun and my most favorite horse. My mare is on the large side, about 14.3 hands and black. Anyway, good luck with your mare, and would love to see photos, it is nice to hear of a relative to both my horses.

WOW it is so cool to hear from someone with a paso outside of America and Spanish countries!
I agree with breeding to a Coral LaCE lined horse.
Are you looking for a certain color? You could even try for a paint paso.
Also I wanted to add many horses out of Capitan De la Vitrina, and Carmin are know to be VERY sensitive...almost to the edge of crazy. Don't get me wrong not all horses with these two stallion in there lines are like this but some.

Don't know if you know how to post a video, but that would REALLY help us to match a stallion to her. ;-) ...and a way for us to see her LIVE!

Dear all,
Here a photo of rosita - hope you are not disappointed she is overweight - her belly should be half size. I do not have a lot of photo's ( last person not to own a digital camera. It is not me but a good friend riding her. The other photo shows me on my other horse Ruby.

Hi Lori,
Thank you for your kind reply - I do think Rosita looks better in motion.
Ruby was sold to me being a quarter horse but she has a lot of ''trotting'' in her and she is way too hot to be a quarter horse. Bought her as a foal because she was being mistreated (is that the right word?) Now she is a spoiled mare who has trained me very well.

All Pasos look better in motion IMHO. Sometimes the plainest looking brown horse can suddenly become this majestic creature with such pride and beauty under saddle.
I'm glad you ended up w/her. My first Paso was sorta a rescue type thing too. I believe many of us can say the same. But dont they make great horses w/the right owner?
