This week's edition of PFHA Paso Fino Horse eNews contained this breaking news:

THE PASO FINO TV SERIES
Promote your Paso Fino farm or ranch to a national audience in the TV series being produced for the new HorseTV Channel, a new 14 hour, 100% equine channel spreading rapidly throughout the U.S. on cable and satellite. The 7 Episode series, produced by the award winning production and marketing company HorseFlicks will feature just 7 Paso Fino farms and ranches in North America.

Already shot and completed, Oak Island Farm in Alabama presents the excellence of their program in Fino, Performance and Pleasure disciplines. Also, shooting has been completed on Feather Hills Paso Finos in Pennsylvania, where the owners Gordon and Brenda Hall demonstrate the excellence and suitability for the Paso Fino in endurance riding and competitive trail competitions.

Don’t miss your opportunity to promote your horses and program to a national TV audience. There is a small production fee to cover the costs of producing each episode; however all of the national TV and Internet Broadcast placement and airings are free to each participant. The series will be carried by internet broadcast, making each person’s episode available globally to anyone with an Internet connection.

If you are interested in promoting your passion for the Paso Fino to a national audience in your own TV episode, contact John May at HorseFlicks at 940-594-0000

I replied to Sarah with the following:

Instead of 7 programs featuring 7 farms, why doesn't PFHA save 1 program for "okay, now this is what all besides showing can be done". Go to the Ocean when beach rides are happening, go team penning w/Pasos, go on Rick Meyer's horseback target practice (don't know name of sport), go on trail rides up and down hills/mountains, show Largo racing, and on and on. Let's just try and appeal to other than show folks, please.

Thanks for your consideration.

To which she replied:

Carolyn,

Please forward any questions to the information listed below. Thanks!

If you are interested in promoting your passion for the Paso Fino to a
national audience in your own TV episode, contact John May at HorseFlicks at 940-594-0000.

Tarah Malek
Marketing Director
Paso Fino Horse Association

Sort of indignant that she would think I can't read the original announcement, therefore quoting to me the last paragraph of eNews as her suggestion - well that and being the airhead I am, I do not note that the Marketing Director is no longer Sarah Holt, but is now Tarah Malek. No, not me, so to "Sarah" I replied:

Hi Sarah -

I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough in my message to you. First, having Hep C, I have major brain fog, no memory, no energy, no strength, am sick a whole lot, ride only about once a month and on and on. I am not able to do anything productive, unfortunately. (Ask CJ if I've bugged him any lately, lol.)

Where you said: If you are interested in promoting your passion for the Paso Fino to a national audience in your own TV episode, contact John May at HorseFlicks at 940-594-0000. (emphasis added)

I clarify: I don't want to promote my passion ... and I most especially don't want nor have the $$$ for my own TV episode. I was suggesting to PFHA, which is my national association, they take responsibility to promote the overwhelming number of their members' passions ... and have their own (PFHA) TV episode about the versatility of Paso Finos. Isn't that one of the things we pay dues for - promoting Paso Finos?

I'm not intending to stir up trouble, so please take this suggestion the way it was intended. Non-show people and show + trail riding people are the vast majority of PFHA members. Please help us - promote the true versatility of this wonderful breed. Thank you.

No answer to that one yet. Somehow I feel I have gotten the attention of CJ, yet again. Oh dear oh dear. So what do you think? I thought that would be a great idea ... 6 farms featured and then PFHA ends it all with a "look what else they can do" program.

I guess one of PFHA's sponsors, Galopando TV, doesn't do this type of videography, or they would be the ones shooting this. Too bad.

If any of you get PFHA's weekly eNews, perhaps you might write TARAH MALEK (phew I remembered) and let her know of your opinions.

This was also included in the e-news

Also, shooting has been completed on Feather Hills Paso Finos in Pennsylvania, where the owners Gordon and Brenda Hall demonstrate the excellence and suitability for the Paso Fino in endurance riding and competitive trail competitions.

So not all farms are show farms. Apparently of the two that have been shot already, one was a show farm and one was not. Seems like they ARE showing the other side of Pasos already. Aren't they?

What I can't figure out is why on earth Sarah Holt is still working for us when she wrote a nasty letter saying how much she hates us and quit. :-?

Ditto! I certainly can't see PAYING someone to MARKET our association, who obviously and vocally doesn't like us.

Sarah, as far as I know, doesn't work for us. I was trying to show that dingy me didn't realize that, even though the new person's name was at the bottom of the email. (Sarah wrote a nasty note? She hates "us". Did she say who "us" was? Uh-oh.)

Yes, it did tell that farm's "other side" and I hope it comes out in a big way in the video. BUT, I guess it gets my goat that my dues is for what? Why, especially with an opportunity like this, doesn't PFHA take advantage of this great opportunity and promote THEMSELVES and our horses?

There is a woman here who runs a Riding Ranch using all Paso Finos. She's an English woman and not a member of PFHA, so won't see the notice, but she does run a successful business with Paso Finos and converts a lot of people to the breed.

Galapondo TV is a PFHA corporate sponsor is also working with PFHA doing video production...of Paso Finos. They came to the PFHA Trail riders weekend in Sandhills State Forest in SC in early May, and also just attended Piedmont's Biltmore Trail Ride. They helped produced Trail Rides Across America DVD with PFHA featuring trail ride get-togethers in CA, SC and FL. I got a copy and watched it this past weekend... watch for it to air in the future. I have seen other PFHA videos which showed beach rides and working cattle.

CarolU - Excellent! My hat is off to that woman. That extremely SMART woman ... she knows the best ride, eh?

LynnG - Thanks for telling me about the new Galopando TV video. And was happy to hear they attended these two regional rides. I was just thinking (wrongly) this was an opportunity for us to call upon our sponsor. Thanks, again.

I recently watched an episode of "Horse Sense" on RFD-TV. At least 50% of the show was dedicated to the Paso Fino. Sorry, no details on farms, horses, etc, but it was very good.

Does Dish carry HorseTV yet? I haven't checked channel listings for awhile...

I guess one of PFHA's sponsors, Galopando TV, doesn't do this type of videography, or they would be the ones shooting this. Too bad.

It was explained to me that Horse TV has contracted "Horse Flicks" to produce several different breed series for airing on their channel- Paso Fino, QH, TB, Gypsy Varners and so on. It is not likely that the PFHA has any say in this and we are lucky to have our breed attract the attention of Horse TV. The company "Horse Flicks " has won a lot of awards for other horse related productions they have completed. Every videographer working at Horse Flicks is a Horse Owner/ Breeder so they know horses and this goes a long way in the effectivness of the production vs. if a company that had no specific horse background were to produce the series. Horse Flicks sent me a dvd with several other episoids on it that they have produced for Horse TV. The quality and professional product had everything to do with our decision to invest in this opportunity.

The series is open to any farm (until the series is full) and the PFHA nor Horse Flicks nor Horse TV is deciding what a certain farm will show or not show. THE FARM is paying the production costs and has final editing approval.

Horse Flicks is the one doing all the promotion of the series. They already have a contract with another company that will make the series available on line.

After the original footage airs on Horse TV Horse FLicks will promote the series to other channels such as the Outdoor Channel, PBS and so on.

The potential opportunity to promote your farm is not something to pass over lightly!

Instead of 7 programs featuring 7 farms, why doesn't PFHA save 1 program

The programs do not "belong" to the PFHA to award or save for the farms they approve of... this announcement was a repeat of the original announcement which is simply letting farm owners, breeders, trainers, anyone who does care to promote their Paso Passion about the opportunity and who to contact.

I have heard of the potential that the PFHA might contract an episoid and I think that positive comments sent to the office detailing members wishes for the PFHA to spend this money and suggestions for what the content should be could be useful.

The PFHA has and I am sure will continue to submit episodes to Horse TV for airing... The E-newsletters often announce dates and times the shows will be on. The PFHA has already taken responsibility and promoted a variety of PFHA produced footage to the national audience. I can again only assume our dues are in fact paying for not only the production of these videos but also the costs to air on Horse TV.

Debbie - No, Dish doesn't carry Horse TV yet. Not for lack of me asking, I might add, lol.
