If you were going to a horse expo down there what town would you find a big one in? I'm looking for an expo place that would be within a few hours of Fort Davis.
Thanks :)

Wow...FT. DAVIS???? You are kidding....
No, I'm not being sarcastic, it's just that you picked about the farthest out point you could possibly pick for Horse Expo's. I know Ft. Davis very well, I met my sweetheart while he lived in Alpine, just south of there. There just isn't much out there. You're in the heart of Big Bend Country. (You don't even get cell phone service out there... ;-) :D )
You MIGHT check El Paso and see if they have any Expo's. Closer to me...which would be about a seven hour drive...you have the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo...which of course, is all-breed. Houston also has a stock show...as does Ft. Worth...but all of these are a good day's drive from Ft. Davis.
Good luck, and if you find any...let me know!

Carol,
Actually what you wrote about no cell phone is perfect. I'm doing the last touches on my romance novel.....it's based in TX. I had the main character driving around Dallas to avoid the traffic....she was headed to Davis and got back on the wrong highway and ended up in Fort Davis. The guy she ends up staying with bought a huge ranch in a secluded area where her cell wouldn't work. In part of the book they stay at a cabin in the mountains.
The only part I'm having trouble with is which town near there they would choose to have a huge horse expo in. I've seen places in Southern CA that looked good.
It's a romance full of Pasos....lol
I want to finish the book in the next month and see if I can sell it......money to finish my farm. You don't make that much but it would definately pay for my run in sheds.
I chose TX because it has always been a dreamlike place to me......I've never been but always wanted to.
Romances dont' have to be technically realistic. There doesn't really have to be an expo center there....maybe just a town that would support one?

Oh THAT'S right...I had forgotten about your novel...
In that case, you might want to pick the Ft. Worth Stockyards...it is a HUGE arena and they have many different horse presentations there yearly. In fact we stayed overnight a block from the stockyards one time, and we walked down to Billy Bob's Texas, which as many of you might know, used to be known as the "world's biggest honky-tonk"! Remember they first had the mechanical bull?
For about a ten to fifteen block radius is all sorts of bars, and tourist shops and bed and breakfasts, in fact, we stayed in the cutest little B & B that had all antique furniture and the old chenille bedspreads, and served breakfast in the parlor! There's a romantic adventure for your novel! ;-)
Do a search on the Dallas/Ft. Worth Stockyards and you should come up with all sorts of interesting info!
And if I can help you with anything concerning the Ft. Davis area...don't hesitate to ask! :D
(hey, I sure would like to get a copy when it's done! )

You know, I always thought the ideal place for the P.F. Grand Nationals would be the Ft. Worth Stockyards. The arena is superb, it is central in the US...and there's lots of other things around for people to see and do. Plus, I might even get there some day if they had it there. 8-) ;-)
By the way, you are always invited to The Lazy IDH Bed and Breakfast Inn if you want to really get down and see the REAL Texas, eat good Texas barbeque and see the beautiful Texas Hill Country! ;-)

Been there, done that. 1992 Nationals Ft Worth Texas. The same year that many South Florida farms were wiped out by Andrew. I believe the last time that Capuchino competed. I personally enjoyed it but a lot of people complained about one thing or another. Can even recall exactly what right now.

Not to hijack..but Cindy..that was the last time Capuchino competed?
I have that on video...it was an awesome class, LOTS of (now) famous Fino stallions... it was El Classico & Capuchino in the end...what a long & awsome performance by both....!
