Thanks Appyday and terri,

Terri: we currently have 12 Pasos, my father used to breed Paso Finos in the 80s but we moved to the US and he sold all of his Horses (He is an Engenieer and had a few Contracts in the US back then) when we came back we spent a few years only owning what is called here Mestizos, wich is a blend of pasos and Trotting Horses for trail Riding etc.....We decided last year to breed Pasos again and we are now in the process of going back to shows etc......as of now Resonancia daughter of World Champion Sonajero de La Esmeralda will be debuting in the Next competition at the end of this month.

I will post pictures later on

to answer the question about the mestizos, well there are different types of mestizos, some are 1/2 QH, 1/2Paso Finos, or 1/2 TB 1/2 paso Finos.

Ive seen 1/2 Arabian 1/2 TWH.....the possibilities are endless.....

At the moment the horse being used the most for trails are the Paso Higueyano, wich is a Dominican Breed not to old, its a Gaited horse out of a Mixture of horses, im not reallly sure on the foundation breeds but ive heard that it has morgans, TWH, andalusian...... this started in the east region in a town called higuey hense its name, Paso Higueyano, they are starting a registry for them, the gait its like a trocha. its a horse bigger than a paso fino usually around 15 hands, all colors are allowed even paints.....and people are paying good amount of money for those trail horses 7k-12k us Dollars the average price.

any given weekend you can see groups of 50, 100, or more riding on the different trails in the country.....there a few clubs just for people that like to go out on trails, and at the end of a trail, usually theres a party where they cook a Sancocho or a pig, and have drinks etc.......

I hope you can make it....the Feria is called Feria Agropecuaria Nacional, is held every year, its a one week event, where we have competitions and exhibition of not only horses, we have meat cattle, milk cattle, pigs, goats, and agricultural exhibitions, usually it starts on a saturday, that day there is a big parade, where you see all the breeds of horses participating in the event, and to close the day theres a Rodeo..this Rodeo is the 1st Qualifying Round of the Rodeo events...

On sunday the cattle exhibition starts, and on sunday morning theres a Horse Auction, usually QHs and TBs sometimes you could find a couple of Pasos... on Monday the Equitation over fences and Dressage competition start, with Qualifying round 1 on the main Arena, and on the smaller arena the rodeo continues, tuesday is for the Paso Higueyano Exhibition, Weds a youth Rodeo takes place at the main arena, and on the Fair Grounds concerts, and just about everybody related to the industry walking around and attending the diferent parties that are happening every night on the different breed stalls, thrsd 3rd Round of the Rodeo and the Halter Classes for QHs.

friday Final Qualifying Round of the Rodeo and Western Pleaseure, Reining and Showmanship clasess of the AQHA..

Saturday on the main Arena is Mares and Fillys day for Paso Finos, starting with Bellas Formas, then Equitation classes, finidhing the day and night with the classic fino competitios and the mare Grandchampionship (here we only compete classic Fino, like in almost all latin america).

Sunday on the main Arena is Colts and Stallions, starting with Bellas Formas, then Equitation classes, finidhing the day and night with the classic fino competitios and the stallion Grandchampionship. to close it up sometimes they do the Fair Grandchampionship where all champion mares and filly go head to head against the boys, or like last year they did the champion of champions where the recent Fuera de Concurso horses go head to head..

at the end of the night there is a Big Closure party....

Hi, Rudy, and welcome to the board! You have gorgeous horses, by the way!
My first horse sale in Texas was to a young man who had come from Santo Domingo. His father had trained Paso Finos for the wealthy, but they were poor so they did not own their own horses. However this young man as a boy would go with his father to the rich people's farms and ride the Paso Fino. Finally he and his family came to the United States and pretty much forgot about the Pasos until he saw my ad on a feed store wall. He came to look at my Pasos and ended up buying not just one but TWO of them, and went home with them on Christmas Eve of 2001!
Now comes the story of MY "mestizo"! :D
This same young man bred my mare, Lacy, to he and his brother's quarter horse stallion, a double Doc Bar bred sorrel horse by the name of Olenaole Tex. He is a Doc O'Lena grandson.
Together they produced a gorgeous filly that is lovely in gait and perfect in conformation. I own that filly today and it is a long story...but I have always wondered what she would be called in the Latin Americas. The young man did tell me about breeders shipping in fine QH stallions specifically to breed to the Paso Finos!
Anyway, when I saw your posts, I had to jump in here...as I have first hand experience with the mestizo horse myself! ;-) :D

Here is Ms. T...she is three years old now. She will gray.

it starts on a saturday, that they there is a big parade,
Did you say Parade? Might there be a spare Paso for a visiting American gal? :D So far my parade experiences have been a Nicaraguan Hispica and the Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC. 8-)

I had no idea that the D.R. had such a marcket for the American breeds of horses. I think it's neat how you show them all together at an event.....some thing for us to think about over here. :question

RudyPM
09-13-2006, 11:27 PM
well im pretty sure we can get you a ride for the parade!!!! :D

Regarding the Different breeds on one show, its only on this event that all breeds are shown together, but its not coincidence that it is the show where weve had the biggest attendance!!!

The market for american horses here is big, specially for QHs, in fact the AQHA openned a branch office here last year, and its growing really fast, we had participants on the AQHA World Youth event this year, and on the World Equestrian Games participating in Reining on QHs.....But still the biggest market has been and always be the Paso Finos, people pay large amounts of money for Paso Finos, we have a very good national production of Colombian Pasos, but most of the Ranches will go and buy in Columbia also...

RudyPM, Your horses are beautiful! The Feria in Feb. sounds like fun, too.

Do you know of any spanish language schools nearby that offer "immersion programs" for learning spanish? I spent 4 weeks in Mexico and lived with a mexican family and took all day spanish classes. I'd like to do it again but was looking for an area that might have Paso horses. In Mexico they had TB's, QH's and Aztecas. Combining school in DR, some Farm visits, and the Feria sounds very interesting! Thanks for any help.
