Hi all,

I went to visit a friend last weekend and she mentioned her paso gelding wasn't finishing his grain, but is eating his hay and drinking water. The day I was there the only thing I noticed was that he looked sad. I know thats an odd description but he really did. I called her today and he said he is not touching his grain, but is still eating hay and drinking water and seems fine otherwise. There are no changes in the other horses.

They are putting an addition onto the barn, but this has been going on for awhile now.

Any thoughts?

Maybe the grain is spoiled.

How old is the horse? Young horses will sometimes do this when they are losing teeth. It's no big deal.

Hey all,

Darty is 12 years old. At least he is eating hay and drinking water. They also have him out on good pasture during the night.

ditto Coreen ..plus
We just went from drought to grass needing mowed about every 3 days (seriously I have never seen grass grow this fast..cool conditions, lots of rain ..I mowed Friday- by Monday you couldnt tell) He may be getting so much MORE grass on turn out now that he may not want grain or it may be giving him a little belly ache..
You didnt mention if he had a fever or not.

I agree with Coreen. When Mico's ulcers are acting up the first thing he stops eating is grain, he will still much hay a bit, but has no interest in the grain. He also looks exceedingly sad. :(
