Hey all you PPR experts, I found this mare and I noticed that she does not have any Kofersi. I recconise some of the names from my old mare Mischoly, but I was just wondering if she would be worth picking up (as a broodmare) Her name is Filipe Estrella Brillante and her Registration # is 8243.

Please give your honest opinion (this is not my mare and you will not hurt my feeings

Wowzer! That mare is super heavy on the Dulce Sueno...I likeee!!! Having a granddaughter of Faeton LaCE (Guamani), the mare in my "Duralactin" post...whom I'm trying to get bred...I can appreciate those lines. I also have a gelding from those lines.
Super horses!

Here's Danzarina at a show outside of Perry, GA, (Grand Nationals??) in 1988 at the age of three!
She's still a beautiful mare at 21!

Her granddam is 1/2 brother to 1/2 sister (Mr. Puerto Rino and Pricilla) is this okay? I know people do it but does it ever cause problems later?

Do you think she is worht $1300, at the age of 22? she is well broke and has been ride by children for a while.

She may or may not breed, a good well broke horse that can give you a few good years is certainly worth $1300. However, make sure there are no health issues that can cost you huge vet bills.

Vet report lists vaccines given, neg. coggins, and suggests having teeth floated in next 6-10 mos + further vaccinations. Also says "heart and lungs okay". Dated April '06

I wouldn't worry too much about linebreeding on a PPR...you'll likely not find many that aren't bred that way...at least on paper. ;-)

It has been my experience with Paso Finos that they age very well if they have been taken care of. As I said, I have two 21 year olds, and no one believes me when I tell them their ages. I would offer these people $1000 for this mare...and should they refuse, that is their perogative. Then you can decide if she is worth what they're asking, to you. Be always aware that a horse that age has limited time left though...and as far as breeding...the longer it has been since she has had a foal, the harder it may be to get her in foal. You see, we have our own stallion here and we do our own artificial insemination, so I've decided to try to breed my mare again because virtually it will cost us nothing to try. But speaking for you...if you don't have these things available to you...the cost of breeding this mare could be astronomical and you STILL may end up with nothing in the end.

HaHa! Now I don't usually visit the ppr forum.... but

I have seen and ridden this mare about 3 years ago. She belonged to one of my young teenage lesson students Courtney. She rode well and Courtney liked to canter her in a pasture where she was kept...I worked her in gait though when I was there. She's a solid built sensible horse as I recall. She's located east of Raleigh. I doubt she has had a foal any time recently, and was kept as a young girl's horse to ride and grow with.

;-)

PS Courtney is the girl riding double sitting in front, so that is an older photo. She can be seen on my Horsemanship page like age 12-13; she's 15-16 now and close to 6'... I am told by her granddad Bill who went on the August Biltmore ride. If you respond...email bill's (william) email.

Oooo...1996...boy, that's a long time ago. Cristy, be aware...this mare may be VERY hard to get in foal...perhaps impossible. Find out if she has regular heat cycles. If they tell you that she has silent heat cycles...that they never see her come in...then perhaps her repro system has shut down. IF that is what you want her for....if you want her for a kid's riding horse...then according to Lynn's post, she might be JUST what you want...and well worth the $1300! And you may have many years of riding left on her.

Take it from me who has bred a mare six or seven times and not been able to get her to sustain a pregnancy, it is tremendously expensive. If it weren't that she were in much better health all around now, and that we are able to do it ourselves with little cost, there is no way I would breed my mare again. Even so I have these nagging questions of what it will do to her overall health and whether or not she can take being a mommy again. But she is should be so much more than a pasture ornament, as she is big, beautiful and impeccably gaited...and a wonderful mother to boot. She LOVES being a mama!

If I were you...I'd have an ultrasound done to see what shape her uterus is in, and see how her ovaries & follicles look. If she has lots of cysts showing... it may be a battle getting her to carry to term and foal. Not having had a foal for ten years is not a good thing. I'd be worried about the expense to get her in foal and KEEP her in foal.

An ultrasound and/or uterine biopsy (if called for by what is shown on U/S) could help you decide if you want to take on a 22 yr. old that has not foaled in ten years...

$1300 is cheap...unless you have to spend a couple thousand "experimenting" with keeping her in foal. It has been my experience that the first hurdle...getting them in foal...is often much easier than getting them to term. I have gone through the same scenario as Carol N...JMO

thanks for all the imput. I don' t think I am going to buy her. I had a mare foal into her 30s but she was bred every year. I wish I had room for one that I didn't necessarily need to reproduce, so I guess she's not for me, but she is out there for anyone else interested...

. She sounds like she'd still make a good kids horse
