Please PM me to add more options
Please participate in the poll IF you either wish to participate in a largo race or have already participated and wish to continue or if you just have stong feelings on the subject! ;-) ;-)

I'm just saying pleasurable. Doesn't have to be fancy schmancy, but would like to be somewhat presentable.
Hopefully we'll have this worked out to where you'll know the day before what class or after what class it will be so you have time to get ready.

Clean, neat and comfortable. Presentable. Largo racers ARE representing the breed at a national show, after all...

You have to watch "any attire"...we have that in ours and we have to watch it. We are in the same timeframe as costume class and don't want people to have to change complete...BUT some attire could scare other horses and that would not be fair.

I agree with presentable, clean and neat, tight but confertable. Say like jeans and a T-shirts tucked and not bright colors. What Don had on was nice. And what Sandy was wearing. Were supposed to be having fun with our horse, we want to be confertable.

I was wearing riding tights with full leather seat for grip/safety and an overshirt because I didn't have enough notice to change into anything else... Besides, he largo race is a _lot_ more 'active' than any other class... I sure as heck don't worry about being 'pretty' (like _that_ would ever happen... )

I would not eliminate pretty though since some people just like to do "pretty" but no long floating scarves or dresses or anything unsafe. I would think side saddles would be out also.

Mary what's wrong with bright colors??? I usually wear a red jacket and did so this year in the race??? I think this would be a great place to wear a sequined QH turtle neck or a silver breast colar on your horse if you wanted to. What about body paint on the horse?? Any objections to it??

Side saddles out? I've got pictures of women riding them in jumping events. Could you explain why you think they shouldn't be used for a largo race if the person is competent? I doubt, that I'd even ride in the race, so I'm not wondering about it for myself.

Ummm, think we are getting a little nitpicky here?
Lets just leave the attire thing alone. MPO

    I know women jump in them but they do look very dangerous!!! I like clean and neat and judges discretion if something is dangerous.

The pictures, that I saw in my magazines from Europe looked more clean and neat than how some have paraded. I hope, that a judge watches for displays of danger and doesn't just judge the tack!

If you are referring to the attire this year we had only a couple of hours notice for the heats so it's amazing any of us wore anything more than manure covered jeans and a Tshirt.
This is one very critical reason I have posted the polls and so on. We have to have notice for the heats so we can go in prepared. It's just plain dangerous to have to pull your horse out of the stall and throw them in the arena when you were expected an additional six hours of preparation time. They really do pick up on your stress.

...than how some have paraded...
I specifically did not refer to this years race, but parade participants due to the short notice posts.

Again clean and neat is one of those broadly interpreted and generational things too, but honestly I don't think anyone minds very casual or very dressy since it's for fun. It is a show but - as I said - all of us don't agree on what is "clean and neat" but it's not one of the most critical attributes of the race anywy as long as the outfit isn't dangerous like maybe a giant chicken suit with flapping wings or something.

Modern side-saddles have two horns, one curved up and one curved down. These go between your knees, more or less, and make for a very secure and positive grip. On a PF, side-saddles would be the ultimate smooth ride, I would think. I have an antique with just one horn, but if the horse has some mane to grab it's not hard at all to jump in them. I've raced in mine, too, on draft crosses but with a hand on the mane or under the front of the saddle. I'll challenge anyone to a Paso Fino race in a modern side-saddle! ('8-)')
How about adding "horse safe" to "clean and neat"?

That would be a good idea - neat and clean and safe to wear around horses
