summary of largo race polls

Here's what most have indicated are their preferences for the largo race. If you wish to discuss this further the largo race topic is being moved to paso versatility.

tack and attire - clean and neat

rider behavior - deliberate unsportsmanlike will be DQ'd at judges discretion

horse behavior - dangerous behavior by horse will be DQ'd at judges discretion

heats - the same day at least 4 hours from the race or the day before

breaking gait - more cantering than gaiting, extended cantering or multiple gait breaks DQ'd at judges discretion

breaking gait - go to center with out stopping, get horse back in gait and resume at the point where you left. or get immediately back in gait or risk being DQ'd (not a lot of votes on this one yet)

demonstration or real class - demonstration

where will the race be held? in the arena

number of judges - preferably one per rider and they could be other judges who are showing since it's a demo.

comped stalls - comp last year's winner and first nine who enter and participate (14 more would be nice???)

Additional suggestions for further discussion

entries - allowed through Wed for a Sat race

prizes - not determined yet - could be donations like gift certificates

all entries will be notified by 6pm Wed of how many heats will be held, which heat they are in and the day and time the heat is scheduled to be run

Maximum number of horses per heat - 6 was fine

Maximum number for the final - no more than 10.

You have poll results already? :eek: The poll only lasted one day, and it may affect the race next year! :roll: That didn't give people, who don't check this site daily, a chance to voice an opinion. What if people are busy that day? Heck, I hadn't even voted in at least a couple, trying to decide or waiting for more options to appear. Could it be, that some don't enter due to few deciding the rules?

The answer to your final question is no. People who want to enter the largo race would not be kept out by the number of people who participated in the discussions.

This is a preliminary summary and done while the interest is there but follows more than three years of discussion on this topic so it's scarcely sudden. If you read the summary you will notice that I asked for additional input. If you have additional suggestions please post them for consideration. We the largo racers would all love to hear from you. Carol begged and begged people to go to the yahoo group to discuss the largo race for months and months and very few did. The few who participate in the discussion and polls will be the ones who make the rules if any are submitted at all.

Nothing is set in stone at this point but be aware that not everyone will be satisfied with the rules and those who chose to be point people (Mel and paintedhorse) will have to make decisions and send in the proposal or nothing will be done at all and it will probably stay the same as it is. Which is fine with us - but we would at least like some advance notification for the heats.

I agree...there are still people posting on the various polls, and more discussion. I think a week or two at LEAST before a summary.

Carol it's been three years since this thing started being discussed on forums. But if anyone has any new great ideas about how to run it I'm sure Michelle and Mel are listening. I just posted the polls because it's easier for me to edit stuff and move it around but it's their baby now. We go and enter because we love largo horses and one of these days our largo mare will be in the race we hope!!
