Well...with all due respect to those who titled that clip...those are miniature horses, not Shetlands. They have a distinct look. ;-)
And it's pretty darned cute...

I about busted a gut when the Indian did a "flying dismount" and remounted one of the stagecoach horses.

That is too funny! I liked them throwing arrows and bullets....
How did they find that many men to ride ... and look silly????

I watched all three videos... the Shetland "Grand National" was pretty cute!

All I have to say about the stagecoach video is this.....get yer big arses off those hosses!!! Be they Shetlands or Minis...just GET OFF!!

I don't know about the "distinct look" Carol speaks of... I've seen minis that look like Shetlands..and Shetlands that look like minis....

I saw on RFD TV that it appears the Shetland & Minis have "merged"? They were being advertised together on a LOGO...but I don't know the whole story...I just caught the end of the show....

No matter what...I love those little horses! I gotta GET ME one of those one day!

Terry, what you may be thinking of referring to the Miniature Horse and the Shetland merging is the AMHR (American Miniature Horse Registry) and the ASPC (American Shetland Pony Club) share the same registry. But each club is different.
By the distinct look, I mean that the miniature horse has a standard just like the Paso Fino does which outlines what the miniature horse's correct conformation should be. In essence, the miniature horse should look like a full size horse in miniature. Not with pony characteristics...short legs in proportion to the body, blunter heads, thicker longer coats, etc. Which is why they shave their show horses...in order to better judge the conformation. We have Pasos that look like QH, or Arab-like, and while they are still Pasos, they don't necessarily fit the standard.
The AMHA (American Miniature Horse Association) which is a separate registry of its own, is much more stringent in its rules...that is the one that requires several photographs of the horse, that it measures under a certain height at a certain age (in fact, an AMHA registered horse does not get its permanent papers until the age of three and must measure under 34" tall to be registered in their registry). The AMHR is much less stringent, although now they are asking for photographs with new registrations which they didn't before.
Neither has DNA testing at this time but I hear it is coming.

And if you buy from anyone else but me, I will be so disappointed!!! ;-)

(my little Rosie is pregnant again, and she loves to produce Pintos!) :D

Oh, and after reading PASOFAN's post, that too is a difference in the miniature horse and the Shetland Pony...typically the miniature has a very sweet, good natured, easy to handle personality. They are very willing and agreeable and easy to train. They loved to be loved on.
Of course, there are always exceptions to any rule but this is on the whole.

Sooo.... Carol..what happens to thse Mini-Horses that don't meet the standard? I just drove by about 8 or 10 of them in a pasture taking "Alf" back to his owner this morning....

The gate sign said mini-horses and mini-donkeys. The Mini-horses looked dwarfy, large of body, short of leg, and were very bushy coated.... one had the "hydro head" bump going on...

They didn't look a thing like your black Cowboy.... not a thing like him. I know what you mean though...I have photographed some of the finest minis I ever saw at our state fair.... but I gotta say...I've seen and even owned one shetland mare who had "horse conformation"...

The ones in the field today.... were no where near the quality of your
black Cowboy...

When you were a kid..did you ever read the children's book titled "Lonesome Little Colt"? The pastured minis looked a lot like those drawings I think C.W. Anderson did for that book....
