Filly --> Mare

...at what point does a filly become a mare?

Age 4? Age 5? When she is physically/mentally mature? When she is bred? When she is ridden regularly? When she begins to act like a snotty mare?

I usually refer to a four or five year old as a mare...or after they have had a foal. I don't know if that is esthetically "correct" but that is what I do. ;-) :smile:

I usually call them mares after they are 2 and being ridden..
