...the horse that will bravely go through any water obstacle will jump 20 feet sideways at the sight of a grasshopper on the trail?

...the same horse that will chase small critters and try to pound them to pulp (sometimes succeeding) will turn into a quaking pile of jelly at the sight of a dead critter on the trail?

...the horse that won't flinch at 4-wheelers and motorcyles zooming by will have a meltdown at the sight of a parked 18 wheeler?

...this same horse, who is totally unaffected by barking, snarling dogs at her heels, will lose it over a bird in the bushes?

Sometimes our trailrides are "interesting"

ROFL....No. But I have one who had a panic attack when he was surrounded by butterflies! LOL (I'm really not sure anyone can top this story, but I'll be interested to read those that try! LOL)

I've never had one shy at a grasshopper, but have had one buck when a grasshopper was hanging on to her butt.

I have one here that is a fatty and lives on dry lot...but if you ride her through taller (mid cannon bone height) grasses..she gets to eyeballing that moving grass like its gonna get her..

I think it has most everything to do with the way horses see. Maybe an object is fine in the left eye but not the right. Also, the amount of light (or lack of it) plays a big role. If an object 2 days ago was seen in bright sunlight, the same object on a raining day will look totally different. I think horses come to expect their surroundings to stay the same. JMO. An example is the horse that has loaded many times on the same trailer decides one day not to load. Try moving the trailer so the light reflects differently into the trailer and 9 times out of ten the horse will load. Another time I was riding with a friend, came upon a bridge that both horses had crossed many time before without a second thought and her stallion balked and did not want to cross it. We looked really close and in the middle of the bridge was a butterfly parked and he was spreading and relaxing his wings every so often. It was enough to make the horse react. LOL

Edited to change "there" to "their". OK - it was driving me nuts.

I wonder why Amante, who paraded his butt down 5th Ave. in Manhattan in front of millions of screaming peeps, gets his mind blown by a bag of garbage sitting in the driveway.

Isn't it obvious? The bag of garbage isn't screaming its' adoration at him. I think Amante is a horse who does not like to be ignored and he must feel slighted by the bag of garbage, so he creates his own action for excitement.

Hmmm, no wonder why I love him so, we have so much in common. ;-)
