I am posting this for many do not know that the family that I purchased my two huge Belgains from (posted last year) has family that was involved in that tragic event. I was actually at his home several days before the shooting picking up a piece of horse drawn farm equipment. My friendship with the Fisher family has grown ever since I bought a breeding from him, they own Dutch Harness Horses. I have spoken with my friend every day since the shooting and it is just horrid to hear the events first hand. At first there was absolutely no news, the Amish were not sure who actually was killed, then to find out that it was my friends brothers wifes family that was involved. What he has told me is not in the news - it is horrid and the community is dealing with the situation well - there is confusion on the reason why, it is hard for them to understand how the man could go through life and his family did not know what he was thinking, there is fear that this could happen again. When I speak with them you can feel their pain.
I will have this evening the name of the bishop that one can get directly to the community any prayers, words of support, well-wishes, and if one would like to help by donations. I will stress that they would never ask for help. I will send them what I can - I can not imagine what this ordeal is going to do to the setback in their community. The relief funds that are set up on the web are also good, I have those addresses also but the money there is going only to pay for the hospital bills. I believe the Mennonites have a relief that may help in other ways but the address I will post later this evening will send what ever you mail directly to the Bishop. I know they could use our support more than we think. Please do what you can if nothing more than a kind word.

First I want to say that Christ has not called me back, I forgot that the funerals are today and tomorrow so I may not hear from him for several days. Appy - it was Christ's home that I was going to when I talked with you this past week. Such wonderful people....
Christ is the person to send any letters to but if one wishes to make a donation directly to the community, I do not have the Bishops name yet so I will post that when I can. I really feel that even the smallest thought sent to them would mean a great deal. Everything you send will be given directly to the Bishop for the entire community.
You can mail to:

There was an item on the news last night that for the first time the Amish are accepting donations to pay for the hospitalization of the remaining 5 victims. One of which is not expected to survive. I was fixing dinner and didn't get to write down the address. If anyone knows what it is please post. The Amish are surprised by the outpouring of sympathy from individuals outside their faith. These are very gentle souls who ask for nothing, tolerate our stares and photo taking, and our other "touristy" shenanigans. What a shame that such a senseless tragedy should happen to them. I think it has touched us all.

Polly - there have been a lot of us that are friends let them know that we really care about them. We have also explained that we (outside the Amish) know first hand what the cost of such a tragic event is going to cost and that we understand the Elders make the decisions on what the community can afford. It would be heart breaking to see them make decisions about those girls, the victims, and the families strictly due to money. As English, it is our way of saying we would like to help (others may call it different). The funds are set up at Hometowne Bank and if you pm me I can get you that info. If you wish to help out other than donating to just those that are surviving, you can mail it to Christ and he will hand your letter to the bishop. I will have the bishops name on Monday and will post it here.
I would like to thank you for your concern and prayers for them. They are the gentler side of our nation and wonderful people.
