How is your knowledge about the bloodline of the PPRPF? Is it up-to-date? Do you think that Dulce Sueño’s influence can still be seen in your horses today?

What about today’s stallions?
What do you know about the producers?
What about the mares?

Are you familiar with today's stock and do you know what can they offer to your breeding program?

There is a lot of variety to satisfy just about every taste or any specifics you want to see in a horse.

I intend to share with you a little bit of information about some of the best producing stallions found in the island of Puerto Rico and in the USA.

I intend to share with you all a little bit of information about today’s PPRPF horse.
That's terrific news! By the way, there was a nice interest at Nationals for your new PPR magazine. Nice layout and good articles - some by well-known members of this board! Congrats on a much-needed source of information!

Thanks for the kind words ... We are working VERY hard to aggresively promote and protect the PPRPF ...

In reference to this topic let me start by saying that Labriego is probably the most prepotent Stallion of his time ... Here is a list of some of the Champions and excellent producers he has sired:

Azucar del Viento - multiple times champion fino mare in the Fair Dulce Sueño and a good producer.
Katiuska - another champion fino mare which obtained international recognition in the world championships in the Dominican Republic ...
Armagedón Grand Champion Stallion in Paso Fino and Bellas Formas and a good producer
Terremoto de Labriego - Champion in the Insular Association and a good producer
Yukibo - Full sibling of Katiuska and a good producer
Controversia de Labriego - Good Producer
Poema de Altura - Good Producer

I want to clarify that I am not sharing this information in an attempt to sell or promote any services of any of these stallions ... Although you can clearly see that their services are advertised in our magazine, the contact phones have been deleted ...

I am doing this ONLY because I truly believe we should become more familiar with some of the bloodlines of the PPRPF found today in PR as well as in the USA

I found a picture of Katiuska

Labriego is known to pass on to his offspring a very fino short collected gait ... Some old breeders from PR have told me that they have observed that Labriego offspring sometimes exhibit a little bit of trote while they are very young. But then when they get under saddle it changes to a short collected gait... His pleasure ride production is not that good

Controversia de Labriego is known to pass on a real competitive fino quality and great gait along with a very delicate step. He has produced some of the most recent Champions mares in the PPRPF circuit, but interestingly when he produces an animal that may not be show ring quality the tendency is to produce a VERY GOOD and comfortable ride or what you would call a pleasure ride … Some old breeders have told me that for that reason he is one of the gems in production ...

Poema de Altura is the younger of this bunch (7 years) is producing EXCELLENT competitive quality with a lot of speed, fino, great disposition, energy and excellent posterior leg action … One of his sons, the young stallion Champion Paso Fino Don Cholito is the most talk about colt in the island right now ...

Armagedon is the one who produces the more balanced phenotypical horse of the three. His offspring are full of brio, nice height (Armagedon is 15hh), great posterior leg action, good speed, fantastic gait, terrific disposition and nobility.

There is one stallion here in the US that indeed represents the true modern bloodlines of the PPRPF - Aguinaldo del Viento!

He is a Labriego grandson (by one of his greatest daughters Azucar del Viento) by Campanero!

I know I represent this colt, but honestly said, PR breeders in the US need to investigate this colt more - he is perhaps the missing link that we have been waiting for!

Any pictures of Batallita de El Coco???

Rafael Arbelo
10-10-2006, 04:34 AM
Last time I saw Batallita del Coco was about a 1 1/2 month ago and I have to say he looked much better than the previous time I saw him ... (He is old you know) ... But his owner, Mr. José Lebrón, told me that Batallita is now able to mount mares and they were collecting him to examine his semen quality ...

I am going back to PR on the 20th and I will try to go by Lebrón's house and photograph Batallita ... (but I can't promise I will do it ...)

Unlike Labriego, which I know they have some offspring here in the USA, the Paso Fino enthusiasts in the USA have not discovered this gem producer from Puerto Rico. His name is Lord de Soberano.

Lord de Soberano produces a very precise gait and a nice size horses … simply amazing!

He has produced many Stallion and Mare Champions; San Francisco de Asis, (Lord de Soberano x Surizaday) a Champion Paso Fino Colt in the Insular Association, Rayo de Luz (Lord de Soberano x Madre Mia) another Champoin Paso Fino Colt of the Insular, Consentida de Amor (Lord de Soberano x Cundeamores), a multiple times Paso Fino Champion Filly and considered by many as the best filly in PR and Farola (Lord de Soberano x Baya de Pledeyo) a World Champion in Bellas formas … just to name a few!

We've been told by several people that we should breed our mare, his half sister, back to him so if you possibly can - PLEASE get some pictures. It's good to know she comes from a long lived line. She is young - about 12. Perhaps the youngest offspring of El Coco??? Born the year he died.

Well, we've have talked about Labriego and Lord de Soberano, two undisputable Stallions that have changed the face of the Pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino in the Island of Puerto Rico.

Now I want to talk about a well known and respected Stallion that has produced two Grand Champions and one Champion Colt ... his name is Zaphiro de Kristal (Zaphiro X Kristal M). Zaphiro de Kristal, who just retired from competition, was a Grand Champion Paso Fino Stallion and Grand Champion Bellas Formas. He sired a mare by the name of Bruja de Kristal who is a Grand Champion Paso fino mare. He also sired Yunas a Grand Champion Paso Fino stallion who also was a Champion Colt when he was young. Zaphiro de Kristal is also the father of one of the most exciting colts in the island; Champion Colt Réplica de Zaphiro.

Zaphiro de Kristal was sired by Zaphiro, the last known offspring of the legendary Kofresí. His mother was Kristal M a mare that was spectacular in competition to say the least and produced very good offspring. Zaphiro de Kristal is making a name for himself and is regarded as a great alternative in the stud department.

There are several stallions in the USA that deserve our attention and one of them is San Mateo Mako (Alicante x Concertina Mako) located in SC. This beautiful son of Alicante presents a very distinguished phenotype, low hands action (front legs) and a pleasant disposition. I took Jose R. Lopez, Armagedon’s owner and he was very upbeat about San Mateo. HIs pedigree presents a lot of outstanding names that are not easily found in Puerto Rico, like Alicante, Dilema de Pincel and Pincel. That fact should make this stallion a very attractive subject to mares brought from Puerto Rico (which tradiotionally have a heavy concentration of the Kofresi bloodline and no Pincel).

I also believe that a young stallion by the name of Aguinaldo del Viento (Campanero x Azucar del Viento) has a lot to offer to those who want to improve their stock. Aguinaldo’s sire is Campanero (Ulesati x Campanita) and his dam is Azucar del Viento (Labriego x Nectar de Campanero). Both of his parents are outstanding producers and were fantastic winners in the show ring. This young stallion has good quality and exceptional bloodlines and needs to be considered to improve our stock in the USA.

There is one stallion in NJ which belongs to Mildred Lopez. His name is Shannonwood Corazon (Allegro x Siete Potencias del Brujo). Those parents represnt a lot of QUALITY in the bloodline. Allegro is the son of Allegretto and Siete Potencias's sire is Brujo de Kofresí. Shannonwood NEEDS to be seriously considered for your breeding program ... and he is right here in the USA also!!!

There isn't much Pincel breeding in PPRPF horses in PR? That's interesting. I was not aware of that. What about Papyrus? Are there many with his lines in PR?

Rafael Arbelo
10-29-2006, 09:54 PM
There is almost nothing (probably nothing significant) left of Pincel in PR .... Alicante was sold to the USA and he was a BIG carrier of Pincel's bloodline.

Papyrus' influence on the other hand is widely found in the pedigrees of the PPRPF in PR.

Yup on the Alicante...have seen it here, quite a bit. I am really liking the Papyrus line, here lately...and being that it is somewhat rare here in the states, I wondered if there was much of it in Puerto Rico. Thanks for the info! :D

There are other stallions that may not be as “popular” as the ones we already have mentioned, but they are not less important to the knowledgeable person.

One of them is another son of Campanero that is found in Puerto Rico

Magico G (Campanero x La Magia)

This 21 year old stallion was not used as a stud until he was bought by his actual owner less than 6 years ago. Since then he has produced 14 fillies and 1 colt. (The colt unfortunately died about 3 months ago, but caught my eye to the point that I was impressed with his quality). His strengths are that he produces good phenotype, brio and a solid bloodline. For those who like solid colors, this stallion passes that trait to his offspring. He is the sire of Paso Fino Champion filly Yari de Coriguex (Mágico G x Coriguex). His mother, La Magia, was a daughter of Furioso, a stallion known to pass a lot of brio to his offspring.

Other stallion that stayed out of the popularity scope until recently, when it was discovered to be a genuine son of Cuentas Claras, is Fiel Diseño. His bloodlines are excellent; (Cuentas Claras x Ortiga). Cuentas Claras was a legend and was astonishingly beautiful. He competed as a colt in PFHA and won Paso Fino Champion Colt in Tampa, Paso Fino Champion Colt in Texas and then in Puerto Rico in the organization of “Los Abiertos” (against Colombian horses) was Paso Fino Champion Colt. Cuentas Claras daughters are sought out as top proven producers in Puerto Rico. Fiel Diseño’s dam was Ortiga a Bellas Formas World Champion in 1986 with bloodlines that include Don Toquí (Arco Iris) and Furioso (Noche Buena). Fiel Diseño stands close to 15 hh, has good temperament, good conformation and is producing nicely.

There is one young stallion that is getting busy in the breeding shed. His name is Excelencia de Alfarero (translated his name means Potter’s excellence). His sire is none other than Réplica de Majestuoso (Batallita del Coco x Belinda) and his mother is Samantha de Campanero (Campanero x Ciara)

Excelencia de Alfarero is right now the best producing offspring of his legendary sire. He is a champion in his own right in both Paso Fino and Bellas Formas. In that second class of Bellas Formas he seems to be invincible and is producing gorgeous babies … I am privileged to own his very first offspring, a filly, and she is her father’s image ... :D

He is very fino and has good brio, and is quick. He stands 14.3 hh. His bloodlines are very distinguish in both sides.

I am sure there are many more PPRPF stallions that I may not be aware of in both, Puerto Rico and the USA. And that is worth talking about, however, there is still yet one stallion in PR that I want to bring to your attention. His name is Finesse (Botafogo x Jackeline)

http://www.2hottotrot.com/data/541/medium/Finesse.jpg

His bloodlines are exquisite and unique in every respect of the word. His sire is Botafogo (Siboney El Brujo X Bacará). In fact many experts agree in saying that the best son ever produced by Kofresí was Siboney El Brujo. Finesse's dam is none other than Jackeline (Guamaní x La Grego).
Finesse strengths are Phenotype and FINO, FINO horses ... He is the sire of Champion Colt Linaje D'La Excelencia, one of the most elegant and promising colts in the island.

In a nutshell, this stallion represents the higher concentration of the Guamaní bloodline today ... :D ...

Jackeline (Guamaní x La Grego) Finesse's dam... for those that don't know this fact La Grego is also daughter of Guamaní ... so Jackeline was an in-breeding of Guamaní ;-)

For those that want to get as close as possible to a correct Phenotypically stallion there are a few ones that come to mind; one of them is Sonero (Daguao de Cemí x Bruma de Tanamá). Although I think I am a good photographer, the pictures you see here don't do this stallion any justice. To me he is simply much more gorgeous than that.

Another one that offers a lot of simetry is Turan de Espectacular (Espectacular x Mirinda)

Espectacular (Kopeki x Glori) sire of Turan de Espectacular

And a veteran stallion with established Bellas Formas bloodlines by the name of Orgullo del Brujo (Brujo de Kofresí x Poesía)

If you post a link to the pedigree from pasoregistry, or give the registered name of the horse....usually someone can give you that info Tracy...it's not really "anywhere", except in studbooks and people's personal notes, memories, etc.
