Looking for opinions on these types of electric fences. Any comments appreciated.

I've had horseguard for nearly two years now and I'm really happy with it. It still looks good and repairs are easy to make. The horses respect it and I feel comfortable with their safety.

Some things to note about it:
-I didn't find it to be good for babies and it didn't keep mine in at all
-Keep plenty of spare parts such as clips, splicing buckles and extra end insulators on hand - two horses arguing over the fence can do a number on it and it can get stretched out
-It's very easy to install and re-configure

Overall, I'm glad I went with it. I board horses and I have a boarder from Germany and one from England who said their horses were kept in it over there and they were happy to find it in the states.

I've used 1.5" safefence for many years now and am very happy with it. Most importantly is that it is safe... on the rare time a horse has run through it (it just comes undone or breaks) absolutely no damage to the horse. Almost every other kind of fence can cause injury in a collision-breaking-tangling-hungup-caught situation.
I agree that it is more problematic with foals. I had a few escapees at 3 strands. Have switched to 4 on the perimeter and no more escapes.
I agree that it is handy to have spare parts on hand as damage/repairs are inevitable.
I actually ordered a bag of 50 extra triangle brackets last year, as I was tired of driving to get a couple more here and there. had to come straight from manufacturer (they don't sell those brackets alone usually, only as part of connectors... but they are the weakest and most replaced link). It was only about 25 bucks for 50 and I've used lots and can also be used for splicing.
I have been using Safefence from System Fencing, made the mistake of ordering a different company once (can't remember the name now), but the connectors were total crap - fried the tape - I had to replace all connectors and repair tape. Now I just get Safefence.

I believe we use horse gaurd tape (which ever is made by JL Williams co) The one thing about tape fence..if you have wind it will wear.We are surrounded on three sides by woods but we are also on top of a hill (800 ft up) so there is considerable wind in the winter..plus just regular old breezes any other time ..but I have many places where the tape has frayed in the insulators because the wind whip makes the tape flutter and then it rubs and frays in the insulators. Some of this may be due to the fact that my posts are more than 8 ft apart..This was after only 2-3 years.I do like it for safety and looks and ease of repair.

Now fence companies recommended putting a few "twirls" in the tape between each pole which cuts down on the wind damage.
