Ok, I am totally sold on this global warming thing..

Live in MN, 90's for the 9th straight day, and VERY humid. Up north were most of us try to retreat to for cooler temps is the Same! this is highly unusual for us here.... It has been this was for what 5yrs now? Not like MN anymore..

So today our temp here in MPLS 94Degrees partly coudy 80%humidity... So it sucks..

I remember in the day when it was 75degrees and breezy most of the summer, to some people that was cool but not too hot either. soooo

What is where you are? Is the weather not usual for you either??

Good One Lori!!! We're about the same, I think today the high is 95, but with the heat index (which is some funky thing they do in the south in the summer, like the wind chill in Chicago in the winter) they said it feels like 105.

And scattered hurricanes, I think Franklin is out there spinning around somewhere. Everyone face East NOW and blow him back out to sea!

It's about our 9th day of 100+ here, which is a record for so early in the summer. we average 4 days over 100, so we're way above average.

Of course, it's a DRY heat...about 12% RH...sweat works here.

According to today's paper, we've been above normal 90% of July. Our normal temp is 92, this year it is 99. :-(

Right now, 6:15 PM it's 86, not humid, feels nice...BUT there are some violent thunderstorms due in tonight. This weekend is supposed to have low humidity and temps in the mid 80's. This is such a welcome relief from all the hot & muggy days we've been having. I feel like I'm in heaven, the only thing is, so do the bugs. Ughh! We are loaded with horse flies, deer flies, mosquitos and gnats.

Are you'all waiting for that nice cold wind from the north?....so are we....I guarantee that a few more inches of perma frost have melted away this summer....you people in Florida better start buying house boats...it's been exceptionally hot, smoggy, and somedays very high humidity....but no rain in our area...very sporadic and short lived....great haying weather if you can stand the heat...first year I've seen my horses sweat in the pasture...where are we all going to go if this keeps up...???....seems that the coolest place are down east(Maritimes)and parts of the west...my hydro bills are going out of sight...to say nothing about the price of gas...oh well, it was all forecast years ago...you won't be able to give away a V8 truck...

Gosh, when I was a kid, in Ohio, it seemed like we might get one or two really wicked thunderstorms a YEAR. I think my memory is probably fair as I have always loved thunderstorms even as a little kid. Now, just watching the weather maps, where we used to live, for several years now the storms have been more frequent and worse than 30-40 years ago.

When we moved out to Maryland, I remember my mom had a rule that it had to be above 80 for us to be allowed to go swimming. We watched that thremometer like hawks and most days it was only in the 80's, occasionally in the 90's but not as a rule like it is now.

Just where do they get these averages anyway? I think its a scheme. In 5 years the 10 year average temp will be higher than it was 5 years ago, and they are going to use that as an excuse to say we are now having average temps - that are really to darned hot.

Heard on NPR the other day - the usual plankton swarm of summer in the northeast Pacific is just_not_happening this year, and its not boding well for oceanic life. The water is too warm and the cold wells aren't happening. Global warming is not a joke.

I'l jsut stop here cuz I could really get off on this, and I'm hungry.

Mid 80s most of the time here and muggy. This used to be the northeast, but I guess it moved.

95 degrees, feels like 105. Really muggy. They predict t-storms every day, but that doesn't happen. I am sweating like a pig.

I don't know Coreen...I was always terrified of storms, and growing up in Missouri, I was a nervous wreck for most of the spring/summer. Don't know HOW many times I dove in the basement...afternoon, nighttime...didn't matter. Lightening struck our house twice...I think we're just older and it bothers us more now. We have other things that agitate us, and we blame our foul moods on the weather...something we can't change....that's so much easier!

It is about 95 here with heat index of 100. This weekend it is supposed to get to 100 with heat index of maybe 115 possible. We are in a terrible drought in Illinois. 40% of crops are wrecked. And Peoria is the dryest city of all. My father's inground pool temperature is at 94 right now.

Good greif, It sounds like Florida Weather has taken over the nation, and beyond! (bet you all wish you had the beaches to go with all that hot weather!) ;-)

It is extremely hot down here, you can hardly work outside in the middle of the day. The "bear" can get you pretty easy nowadays!

At 6 PM it was 99 degrees with a heat index of 105. Humidity was at 80%.

We were at Home Depot and as we walked back to our truck we saw two women leave a Dodge Minivan. I paid no attention to them, it just registered that they were female. As we walked past the van I heard a dog bark and looked into the minivan. There was a small dog inside - no windows down - not even cracked. The car was shut off, no ac running.

We were parked one space over and in front of this vehicle. I just couldn't stand it and told John that I was going to call the Sheriff's Office so they could get animal control to respond. We stayed to watch out for the dog. Eventually the owner came back and drove away before the SO got there.

You know, I have very rarely done such a thing, but given the temperatures, and that I had just heard on the news a story about how fast it gets to 120 degrees in a closed vehicle (10 minutes I think they said?), it seemed the thing to do.

I guess that I could have gone into the store and had them page the owner of the vehicle, but I've had a very bad experience doing that. The other time when I did do that, even though I explained very nicely to that person that it is both dangerous for the animal and against the law in our county to leave an animal in a closed vehicle, they became quite belligerent with me. So I just decided to call law enforcement this time and let them handle it.

It all turned out O.K. I guess this time. The dog appeared to be O.K. (appeared alert and responsive) even though it was in the closed vehicle for between 15 to 20 minutes. But with these temperatures ... you just can't take the chance. At least, that's JMHO.

I can hardly take walking back and forth between buildings in this heat. It's oppressive. John said that it feels like he's breathing water, and I agree.

We sure haven't been doing much riding. The horses tend to stand in their stalls under the ceiling fans and hope one of us will spray water on the roof. Nobody has any energy.

So that's how it is here - northeast Florida - today, yesterday, last week, tomorrow, tomorrow's tomorrow, ...

We are in triple digit temperatures for day 3 and expect at least three more days of same. Humidity is like 5% which is supposed to make it tolerable. Horsehockey! Nutting makes triple digits tolerable!
We will also take any and all rain you want to send our way. We were looking forward to a bumper haycrop this year but then it stopped raining. We've been sitting under a big ol' high and the system hasn't budged for a month! Absolutely no rain!
I'd say I believed in global warming but this is just summer in Oklahoma. I figure if we really had a global warming problem then there would be as many typhoons in the pacific as there are hurricanes in the Atlantic. Since the Pacific has been quiet for the past couple years I figure it's just our turn to actually have weather worth b..ching about! Sigh.

Low 90's rain every day - like a sauna. Gonna be hotter for the next few days with less rain.

This poor guy took his baby daughter to daycare, was so sleepy he forgot to get her out and take her in. He went to work, came to pick her up at day care. They said she never came. He looked in the car. She had been there all day in her carseat where she had fallen asleep in the heat. She died and he is a basket case.

It's too hot and people are working too hard and not getting enough sleep.

Weather alerts for tomorrow are 100 and 75% humidity - index will be 100 to 115 ! And we sure are NOT use to that !
First time according to records since 1995 - It is suppose to be breezy -
Probably going to hibernate inside by the a/c!

We ride in South Jersy and today we rode for this first time in a week because it was only 90! Tomorrow will be about the same, so we will ride. But Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the 90's with HIGH HUMIDITY which brings the heat index in the 100s! All we can do is make sure they have good clean water and shade. Oh, I can't wait for the Fall. We had a decent Spring, albeit a lot of rain, but this high HUMIDITY is killing us in the NE! We might as well be in Florida! Yes, everywhere is getting hotter. Pasos seem to deal with it better, but when we come to ride, they look at us like, "Come on, you don't really want us to ride in this, do you? Think about it? How about a good hand graze, a little spritz, carrots and thank you for coming." Sharon L.

*points up to the 1% "No, it's all a joke" result*... Yeah, I figured there'd be one

When glaciers, and the very polar caps themselves start melting, I think palpable, suffocating personal experience prevails. It's not even cooling down at NIGHT now. Oceans rise 1/4 an inch a year, and have been for the past twenty-something years. I think they might be rising more now, not sure (it's unfortunate that Weekly Reader doesn't come in an adult version, isn't it?)

Hubby brought up the ice age the other day. I think we're experiencing the opposite.. I do think global warming is the cause and weekly readers for adults would be great I think. It was always my favorite little book in grade school. 8-)

I always liked the overly-cheesy "Thunder" books- with Cindy, Willie, and the burro- what was his name... Cupcake. I won (silent auction) one of these books up at Springfield earlier this year. There need to be more HORSE stories!

It hasn't been below 95 for a couple weeks. It hasn't rained since mid June and we have forest fires over the boarder in Wyoming now, so it's smokey here again. I did a small trail ride yesterday morning (12 riders). We were done by 11:30am. Then a potluck. It was nice riding in the woods so at least we had shade. We have thunder/lightening now - as usual in the evenings but no rain. The lightening will start more fires.

We had a family picnic at Spearfish creek today. The kids went tubing. The water was painful COLD! Of course, it doesn't phase the kids. It made my feet ache after 5 seconds!!

Overall, a nice weekend

Don't hate me because I'm .............. cool!

It's only 60 here today. Expecting 60's all week. That is strangely low for Alberta in July. It should be in the mid-70's with the occasional 80 thrown in. (Very low humidity too. Summers here are WONDERFUL.)

But that's how global warming works. It makes temperatures go nuts. We are getting warmer winters right now ... and, for the most part, drier summers. It does not bode well.

They are thinking that global warming will cause our northern boreal forest (one of the biggest living "lungs" for the world -- it purifies the air by being a huge carbon sink, as do the equatorial rain forests) to shrink and move further northward.

When that happens (and it has started), I won't live in "parkland" anymore. The semi-arid lands of southern Alberta will advance northward. Then they expect our summers will be hotter and our winters will get colder.

Because of global warming, they're already seeing a decline in the number of polar bears. If they don't get a long, cold winter, polar bears don't get the food they need and then the females try to raise their cubs without enough of a fat layer to see them through -- and the babies don't make it because they can't get enough nourishment from Mom.

Global warming is a real threat that EVERYBODY needs to address!

I don't know, Jen - I'm a lot older than you and have lived through more Minnesota summers.

Yep, this one is a HOT one. It sucks. And it's been a while since we've had a miserable stretch like this. But weather tends to go in cycles, and I remember being a teenager and having MISERABLE HOT HUMID summers just like this one.

Is this global warming? If I knew I'd be in a different field. But while this is not ordinary, it is not really that unheard of here either.

Heidi

I've been using the hot temps these last few days to introduce Q to the water hose and get her comfortable with it. Day #2 was much better than the day before. I'm hoping today is even better. If it stays this hot, I may even turn the hose on myself!

BTW, 60* sounds pretty good to me! You can wear just enough clothes to be comfortable and still be able to ride (do any kind of activity) as long as you want without overheating. Fall is my favorite time of year because of the cooler temps and milder weather.

I agree with Pascale - I do remember a few super HOT summers - and a few cold wet ones! We have had really mild winters and long really COLD ones !
It does cycle and really if you think about it - we get ALL the warnings now - we didn't get those years ago - you took what came and they sure didn't give much warning about storms like they do now.
And we sure didn't have a/c like we do now! In buildings OR vehicles! Ya , I AM that old!
Last time we hit 100 "officially" ( always warmer here than where the official readings are taken) here, was 1995!
This week is suppose to cool down to 70's and low 80's.And we are finally getting some of the rain - though a nice steady rain would be better than the T-storms!
