Well, different topic but it is still really great news! All of you know that I took pasos to the pony sale earlier this year - well, I personally met the buyers of all but one of the pasos sold and they all went to GREAT homes. The one mare that was sold was not rideable and sold as broodmare only, I could not sell her to paso people due to her injuries (had tried for years for really cheap prices).... she was sold to an embroy transplant company at the sale..... well, needless to say I was not estactic but figured she would serve them well. Well - I've had another prayer answered - I got a phone call from a wonderful gentleman in Indiana this evening - he saw the ad for this mare in a paper and bought her. I asked that if the mare was sold to give my number to who ever bought her - I talked with him and explained her injury - why she could not be ridden - what a wonderful broodmare she was - my reasons for selling her and why I picked the Amish pony sale..... he told me that he bought her because she was so sweet and such a wonderful mare - said that he had no desire to breed her and that he only wanted her as a "pet" to go with his other younger paso mare! That she would live with his family since she was such a wonderfully sweet mare - then asked if I had any more! What a night!!! Thank you Lord!

You know something - I forgot to ask if he bought her with her papers, I was just too happy to care. He told me that he could not read her name on what he had but could read the parents... it will be interesting to see if the embryo place has kept her eggs and breeding rights or if they just bought and resold her.....
Did not think of this until I slept on it.....
Either way does not matter - Me Amiga Estelar has a wonderful home! :D

How does that thing with the eggs and breeding rights work? I have never looked at any of those closely but then we don't keep mares either.

ASB - Just as one would freeze the semen of a stallion and have the legal right to use it or sell it, a mare owner may collect eggs from the mare, freeze them, and put them in other mares to have foals of their choosing. So far I have never seen it written that the mare has to actually stand on the owners property or be in their possession - so if a registered mare is bought (rightfully), transfers are complete, the mare has eggs collected and frozen, which are property of the owner of the mare, then the mare "can" be destroyed or sold for grade without papers or given away so the owner of the egss does not have to maintain the actual live mare. The paperwork states the mare is still owned by the person that owns the eggs. A mare owner has the same rights to the frozen eggs as if the mare were standing on the property - this is an important issue to the rights of frozen semen and eggs (embryos) especially if the horse dies. The only breed that I am familiar with that will not allow this is the Jockey Club (they are natural live cover only). That rule makes the living horse much more valuable for if they die - there will be no more foals from them.
Others maybe able to add to this - I am only familiar with TB and pasos on this issue.
