So who is coming? Monday Oct. 16th. Classes start at 9 am at the Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh, NC. Afternoon sessions starts around 1pm. Evening session starts at 6pm with a Paso Fino Parade of Flags and then Paso Costume. The PF evening classes are intermixed with Arabian and Draft Horses.

Ladybug and I will be in Paso Costume again as Linda Gallopa, Andean Mountain Flute Player, and maybe another class or so. Drop by and say hello...Red Dodge truck and trailer across from the open warm-up ring is where I like to park. If not there I'll be at the Indoor Arena.

I've got quite a few calls from folks who are planning to come and watch. We always have a great spectator turnout of non-Paso people, and they really enjoy seeing the Paso Finos perform!

If you haven't entered your horse, you can do it upon arrival. Flat Rock Farm is hosting an exhibitor's bar-b-q the evening before when you arrive with your horses after 6pm Sunday night. So who is coming?

One of my friends, Donna S. from Colorado, is going to show her gelding there, I think. She will be riding her three year old "Prairiewind's Casanova". This will be the very first show in which she rides. She has shown only Bella Forma (once or twice) before.
Her gelding won the 3 year old Geldings Bella Forma class at Nationals this year. He was shown by Milda M., I think.
Donna is kind of nervous about the whole thing. She really has nothing to worry about, though,...she looks fantastic on a horse. I am not sure which classes she is entering, but I assume it will be a pleasure (AO) or/and performance (AO)????
Can't wait to hear her stories....
One more thing....I own his dam "Caleserina del Cardo". Casanova (Cas) looks and moves exactly like her.

The Fair is always a fun show for good fellowship and new horses and riders to get their feet wet too to the showring. I've taken many to its as being their first show. I wish them good luck!

Remember this is the first show for Piedmont's new show year if you want to start getting points for 2007 show year Piedmont High Point Awards. Pay your dues before the show to the Piedmont Treasurer Lauri Pistolis. www.piedmontpasofino.org Piedmont members can live anywhere and still have horses show in Piedmont region to qualify for the HP awards.

:D ;-)

She 's so beautiful Kerry. I don't thing there is anything in the world more touching than watching a mare standing patiently over a foal while it rests or sleeps. Arwen had five mares standing over her. No wonder she's so rotten today!! But she is a love!!!

Thanks MG's...she's a sweetheart of a horse. I feel quite fortunate to have found her. Thanks to paintedhorizon for capturing this moment for me. :D

The fair show is over now, BUT what fun it was! We had 81 entries registered for the morning and afternoon session. Evening session showed 71 entries, which also included intermixed in classes Arabians and Draft horses. The Draft horses were a delight to see with riders in english grab and tack posting on those big butt horses mostly with cropped tails!

We had entries in all classes this year except one BF gelding class, that includes entries in Versatility, Western, Trail, Driving and Costume. We had our Piedmont Youth ride a prestigious Flag ceremony in front of the one of the largest non-Paso Fino crowd of spectators I have seen for the 6pm evening show. It was very well-received by the crowd with applause!

I rode in Costume also after the Flag ceremony in a very festive colorful Andean MT flute player on my mare Novia Dulce de Gracia (Ladybug), and that created applause by the audience. I was very proud to show off the Paso Fino heritage on my "Costume" ride in front of such a large crowd....I felt the moment as being very special as I floated around the arena on my smooth, fast moving Paso Fino mare Ladybug, and thought of that long history of the breed since Columbus brought them to the New World. WooHoo!

Lori's husband Greg West was taking pics, so maybe she can post some when she catches up timewise!

we had an awesome time at the Fair show, we will definately plan on attending every year! I tell you what, I've been showing horses for almost 20 years, and I've never had such a huge enthusiastic crowd! It was so refreshing to see the crowd cheering for every horse as it passed over the board (not just clients or a lone owner - don't be shy you know it's been you before!) I loved hearing the comments on how beautiful the horses were and "wow - they are smooth" as you rode by - this is what horse showing is all about, and this is what we need to do to promote the Paso Fino!

We took 8 horses and came home with 4 Championships - Fino Champion and Performance A/O Champion, 2 Reserve Championships - Performance A/O and our youth rider Jordan Irvan racked up the blues! We even got Ernie to show our Fino A/O Mare Mistica! We had the best time!!!

Robbyn, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you...we got there late  , so I didn't get many photos, as it was getting dark. It was good to see everyone, and a SHOW. I hadn't been to one since this show, last year, so it was good "soul food" for me. :D

I got a few photos from just before the flag presentation.

Jordan Irvan (Robbyn will have to name the horse...I missed it).

The woman in the center of the photo is Ali Casey...she throws a pig pickin' each year at this show. She and her husband own Flat Rock Farm, in Louisburg, NC.

BTW...Lynn and Bug did VERY well in their class...they looked mahvelous! All of the horses were excellent ambassadors for the breed. Thanks to all who brought the horses, and made us look SO good! :D

Greg and I have attended the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh, NC for the past two years. Though it is a 5-hour drive and only a one day show, it is totally worth it. Showing Paso Finos in a relaxed, fair atmosphere is alot of fun! Each year, we exhibit horses to crowds of horse people, some who have never even heard of Paso Finos. Notice I said crowds...now that's a new experience at a Paso Fino show! The evening events were full of spectators. We had the delight of sharing about the Paso Fino breed to several people, and putting people in contact with Paso Fino farms near them. One lady from England was overwhelmed with fascination about the breed, and just couldn't wait to find out more. A retired couple from the Wake Forest area approached us at the exit gate and was also very interested in the breed. It's a unparalleled opportunity to promote the Paso Fino horse to our perfect market...people that already enjoy horses but are looking for something smoother to ride. The NC State Fair is a very inexpensive show, with entry fees at $24 per class (not per judge) and it was a two-judge, USEF show this past year. There are money paybacks for every class, with first and second place paying back more than the entry fees in the regular classes, and championship classes pay back $50, $40, $30, $20, and $10 for the top placements...what a deal! We enjoyed the parade of flags by our Paso Fino youth, and the organ music and clapping of the audience. State Fairs are great places to enjoy our Paso Finos and sell horses (though we didn't sell any there, there was alot of interest and contacts were made). Besides the horse show, the fair is a fun place to enjoy with family...it's a fair! Rides, games, exhibits, petting zoos, and food. Funnel cakes, frozen cheesecake dipped in chocolate on a stick, and BBQ are three more reasons I enjoy showing Paso Finos at the State Fair. Ali and Paul Kasey graciously provided a traditional NC BBQ exhibitors dinner on Sunday night, which was delicious!!

Beautiful pictures! I was looking if I could get a glimpse of my friend Donna and her gelding Cas, but couldn't find her in any of the pictures. That's ok....I'll be seeing lots of her pictures this weekend. This was her first show riding Cas. I bet she was a nervous wreck. She got back to Colorado last night.
It looks like it would be a lot of fun and a big crowd!!!

Thanks for posting all those beautiful photos!

The top one of Greg's that says Robbyn Young is actually Jordan Irvan. She had alot of personas at the show by the announcer...Robbyn was one of those!

The leadline rider is Juan Carlos Quesada's young 2 year old son. Juan Carlos is the trainer for Flat Rock Farm.

Helene, I believe your friend got a blue and a red in Pleasure Schooling A/O Open... she had a red jacket on and riding a bay? Lori West was in that class and each got a 1st and 2nd....and their pics taken in the winner circle by the show photographer.

I hope to go by the fair show tommorrow and look at my show pics.

Lori, is that horse that the person named april is riding do u know if she's a client of shaw's? She looks really familiar and the person i'm thinking of owns a grey mare that is really pretty named lily. Also does anybody know what placement shaw took on Sinbad? Just curious.... I wanted to go but my new horse isn't ready yet... still working with her. I'm hoping she'll be ready by the clemson show.

El Indio Elegante - Shaw's client that owns Lilly is named Angel, maybe the picture described as April is actually Angel! I've seen Lilly (the mare)before and she is such a "pretty" girl, very feminine.

For the record, the Paso Finos started with an exhibition at the NC State Fair Horse Show in 1975. I saw them there that year (first year I was introduced to Paso Finos) and Charles Minter, Sr. was exhibiting his beautiful palomino stallion Siboney LaCE.

In 1976, note (20 YEARS AGO) was the first year Paso finos had classes at the NC State Fair Show in the outdoor arena on the main show grounds across form the race track. Often a motor car race would be happening at the same time we would be showing. Also the fireworks in the evening would go off over the showgrounds while the horses would still be showing. The show would stop until they would be finished.

We have had a Paso Fino show every year since then (1976), with numbers dwindling to a low once of 25 horses to a high last year of 70 horses. We have gone from having 1 judge to now having 2 judges. We have had our shows on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday. Having the show on the weekend last Sunday of the fair didn't draw more entries that year, actually less. Monday seems to work well, and we get a good turnout of spectators too. Exhibitors come in the night before. (In reality, you wouldn't want to get in rush hour traffic during the week am or pm drive) in Raleigh with a horse trailer.)

We had as few as 19 classes 10 years or so ago (since I can recall) (sure there was less way back when) to now we have 50 classes.

We started a Paso Fino Parade of Flags last year. All it took was a suggestion to do this to the fair committee. The NC State Fair has been very good to us. As the local show manager, my goal was to have at least one entry in every class, preferably a minmal of 2 or 3 though to make it a class. Of course many classes had more than that. We had 11 entries in Pleasure Mares this year; 14 entries in Pleasure Youth last year. Ali Casey has helped exhibitors feel welcome upon arrival by hosting a bar-b-q the past 3-4 years sunday evening.

It takes a team of dedicated volunteers with ideas and planning, AND exhibitors who love to show off their beautiful Paso fino horses to a crowd of interested spectators all to make it a success! Nice fall weather helps too! I sure did see alot of smiles on folks riding at this show...they were having fun!!!

P.S. Pasowave, you looked great showing....and you did very well too! Congrats on your blue ribbons. You have beautiful form riding and a lovely horse too.

I got a horse count today of 67 horses attending.... 10 down from last year. One barn planning on coming didn't make it due to ill horses from Natls...so don't know how this affected the numbers.

Robbyn, I'm sorry about the mislabeled photo.

El Indio, YES, her name is Angel, and she's a client of Shaw's. The horse is named "Lilly". Her husband is named Steve and builds houses. They live in Alexander, NC, which is less than 10 miles from me. Angel works for Glaxo-Wellcome. I can remember alot about her, except her last name. I would love to contact her, though. I should probably email Shaw Laney.

Don't worry Echo! Jordan was pretty used to it by the end of the day! This one was a bit tricky, b/c we both wore the same color jacket, with our hair down on the same stallion - so the confusion is understandable, I just wish I was as tiny as Jordan!

The best was when Jordan won Pleasure Junior and announced her as Wilson Ruiz!!! I never knew Wilson could look so cute in a pink jacket 8-)
