Well, we just got back a little bit ago, and even though I am beat I thought you may like to see the pictures.
This is one powerhouse of a horse. Not sure about him being a trailhorse...need to give him a little time and see about that. But he is gorgeous!
Here are a few pictures. The lady in the blue coat riding is my cousin Cindy. I am in the white shirt.
What you think??

He looks to be a good size, weren't you looking for a taller, sturdier horse?
How lucky to have won him!

Aaaarrrggghhh! Boyd, if you'd have contacted me sooner I wouldn't have committed to helping the hubby stretch fence tomorrow!
I'd love to go, but we need to get the fence finished so we can bring Q home from the trainers. I have to supervise. Kenny started the fence when I was gone visiting Q...and put the T-posts in backwards...
I will ride Q tomorrow, but it will probably be in the afternoon. I hope you have a great ride. Where are you riding and what is it like?

Pat (my trainer) and her husband are in TN at a big trail ride. Buffalo River? Anyway, when they get back we will all (them, me AND Kenny) go for a ride at Hard Labor Creek again. Want me to call you when we pick a day to see if you can come, too?

Linda, you're gonna kill me for this, but in that photo of you on him, he looks like Shenan! ;-)

You always did like that color combination! ;-)

If you decide you don't want to keep him, I'll take him off your hands for you! 8-) :D

Beautiful colour... awesome mover... great size and presence!!!
What is not to like?
I am sure he will be awesome on the trails, too. Just give him the chance to come down from show mode. My show horse is my best trail horse.
If you don't love him... I'd be happy to get in line to give it a try!
Seriously, give him a chance... open your heart and allow yourself to be happy with your wonderful new horse.

Gait...he certainly LOOKs good in gait, and sounded pretty good going over the board. I, personally, didn't get a good gait because by the time I got enough cajones to get on him, he was fed up and ready to go to the barn. So all he did was rush into the bit and jig. So much for the cajones!
But to his credit, they had been feeding him 2 scoops of sweet feed a day, and he has been in that stall (as far as I could figure) 24/7 since the raffle. The really great folks that were keeping him for me didn't do anything with him they said. Like Cindy said, if she had known that SHE may not have gotten on him either. He should have blown sky high! But he never got stupid, just hotter.
He has a VERY soft mouth. He is head shy and ear shy, which we will work on. He is nervous about being touched, but in a roundpen will join up in a heartbeat. Stands like a rock for mounting a dismounting, though it was apparent he wasn't used to the mounting block. Just a little work showing it to him and he was fine with it.
He has very high action...lots of lift in front, lots of hocks.
Right now, he is out in pasture with Tario. Tar is the least aggressive horse here. He acts like he hasn't had much pasture time...he was trying to roll and eat grass at the same time, and acted like a horse used to mostly rolling in a stall when he was getting down and up.
Carol, yes, he does resemble Shenan a lot. He is a lot more substantial, but I think Shenan is taller. And actually, I DON"T like grays!! Never wanted one in my life...isn't that funny?
Here are a couple more photos of him and Tario this morning. Tario is my friend Ellen's 28 year old Paso gelding.

He is a beautiful, well built paso. I always have said I don't like grays too, but I always seem to be attracted to them when I see one! I bet with daily work, he will turn out to be very nice. It takes time to get to know them, and sounds like he is starting out with some very nice qualities! Congrats on your new paso!!

Give him some time to settle in, I think you'll love him! I got the impression he hasn't had too much saddle time talking with the owners before the auction.

If you don't want him, I know someone who does - my friend Megan!

Hasn't had too much saddle time? Really? Holy cow. His mouth is a dream. Boy, they didn't tell me that!

Linda..he LOOKS great..and you look great on him....I hope he is "settled" enough for you... take him off the sweet feed...he don't need it! Maybe he will calm down a bit... just by stopping the extra high-energy carbs alone...in the sweet feed.

Linda Y
10-16-2006, 02:59 AM
I bought 3 tickets.
He wants so bad to be a sweet horse. It is obvious he hasn't had a lot of petting or affection but wants it desperately. He pulls away when you go to pet him, but comes right back. I think he will be a nice boy.

I ditto Terry's suggestion on nixing all that sweet feed... 8-)

Yep, that is a Bob Marshall. I LOVE that saddle! It is one of the first ones when they were made with that material like diving suits.

Well, he is getting 'broke in' today! We haven't had any significant rain for a couple months. Yesterday it rained a little. Today, it is pouring, windy and a tornado watch! Mo is out with 4 of the others (except Desi and Bueno) and they were tearing around like idiots! I hate adding new horses to the herd! Sheesh! :-?

Honestly, yes I did! I was telling Cindy that you were the one have that gray mare I want so bad, and that she is too laid back for you. Sometimes you just have to go get on that stallion for the rush! Said you would really like this horse...his gait, size, color and very forward attitude under saddle! Yeah, you would like him.

Congrats Linda! I'm glad you finally got him..sorry I didn't have pics.

Those are great pics of ya'll enjoying him!

He's young..needs time...and stability..I'm sure he'll be fine on the trail...and if not you can make me I don't know like # 20 on the list of those who'd love to have him.

Keep us updated pretty please!

Linda, I am so happy for you! You deserve a nice horse to work out for you...you have been through alot with Shennan and the other one. I so hope this guy works out for you! If not, I am SURE you can trade him for a nice quiet trail horse...so no matter what - it will work out for you!
Keep us posted on how he is doing at your home.
Congrats!

Sooo Linda...are you keeping him? Looks like I may have another rescue horse coming here...dark bay Paso...guess I will know in an hour or so...

Linda Y
10-20-2006, 11:50 PM
I am keeping him right now. I haven't tried to ride him yet...it has been raining every day since I picked him up!
He is a nice boy...good in the stall, easy to mess with. Has been real nice to turn out with the girls, but haven't tried him with the boys yet. They are such butts that I know there will be a macho contest between them.
Got him off the sweetfeed and onto pellets and beetpulp. It will take a while for all that sugar to work out of his system, and he is having great fun in the pasture.
His former owner said he was a high energy horse even when on trails, so he may not be for me...I like a laid back horse. My husband will be heartbroken...again...if I let him go. He really likes this one. But he doesn't ride and doesn't pay to feed them!
I want Appy to trade me for Misty... hint, hint

You know...I never saw the post where you offered up Dina. If I had known, I may have made that drive! I actually DID almost trade him while I was in Bonfaire for an older grey mare. But she didn't gait like I want and really objected to being ridden for the first time in a year.
