I know of a horse that is pure puerto rican and she has puerto rican eyes. She never passed it on to any of her babies unfortunately. Does anyone else have a paso with the light colored eyes.

I'm not sure I know what Puerto Rican eyes look like? You said they are "light"? what color light? Brown, blue? How light are they? got any pix?
Help us out here......
Thanks, Pasomom

Puerto Rican eyes
Some PR Pasos have amber colored eyes - sometimes called 'goat eyes' - rather unusual. I'll see if I can find any pictures of these to post.
My mare isn't PPR, although has PPR blood. She's got amber eyes, although I think that has more to do with modifiers than with geography. :D
See if this is light enough for you to see.
She's a blue grulla (black + dun).

Pretty mare Kerry! (Thanks for being patient with the new BB.)
Do puerto rican eyes look kinda like cat eyes?

Thanks Lori. Actually, her eyes may be more hazel than amber. I found a photo of a horse (PPR) who has very light amber eyes. Not sure what his lines were, I'll have to see if I can find the info. I'll post a link to the photo, as it belongs to someone else.

This eye color, is often times associated with the champagne and the silver dapple colors, which "don't exist" in the Paso Fino..officially. There is some debate about whether or not they do. I think there are many mysteries in equine genetics yet to be sorted out.
For the most part, I don't see a huge difference in the eyes of the PPR's. Perhaps a bit more softness in their eye. They certainly weren't shy when it came to color....which may explain the thought that PPR's have a higher percentage of different eye colors. Things like that are not favored in Colombia, where they prefer the more "traditional" colors.

Great picture. I am currently trying to collect pix of the old great stallions of both PPR and Col., so if you can get permission to post them here with a short bio of their info that would be great. Let me know who I should contact if you know anyone with access to these pix and could help out with an accurate article. I would like it if folks could come here and see the old horses and know what they looked like, and gaited like, if I can get video.

Well...Calipso wasn't used much...is said that he didn't have the "best" temperament! I think he produced a colt...not sure of any others. If you go to that website pasofinosinfo.com, there is contact info and she's got a lot of photos. She may take a while to respond...she is in the midst of a foaling spree! :D

Well, I know what you're talking about after I cast my "I dunno what you're talking about..."
We have two babies with "PR" eyes. One is buckskin with 'light brown' or amber eyes, the other is what my mom calls a smokey black. Both are diluted, the smokey black is a double dilute... can you tell my mom likes funny colors?
I do know that Puerto Rican Pasos are not the only one's with these amber eyes. There are other breeds in which, along with these funky colored eyes, their coats give off a very silky-looking, very shiny sheen. They are called Champagnes...they come in three or four colors...I think, dont take my word on it, buckskin, palomino, cremello...i think....I'd have to look it back up...but its really funky.

I have seen a PR stallion here in Tennessee with amber eyes - stunning horse. Named Bayamon or at least thats all I have heard him called.

My buckskin gelding, Northwoods Senero, has very striking amber eyes. However, he is full Colombian, Royal Oak Presidente x La Nanne de Tomaria (Juan Juan). People that I have never met, will come up to me on the street and ask about him. He really catches your attention.

Lori, he looks much like the horse in your avatar. I don't have any pictures on my computer at work, but will post one when I get home. He was born with blue eyes and they turned amber as her matured.

Jan - If he looks like my Tequlia...he must be handsome.
(But I'm not the least bit partial...can you tell?)
Picture as promised. Senero is with his yearling 1/2 brother Galtero. Galtero's sire is Petrolero.

And his is a close-up of Senero's eye. Not sure how well it will show up.

I like Senero's eyes! They're funky...its a good thing...
I'll have to show you pictures of the little black colt, now gelding, at our place. He was born with steel blue eyes, instead of the normal deep blue. Now they're steel grey...

I guess the most striking horse I ever saw was a pPR stallion in the '80s named, Vibrante Regalo SL, Deleite bloodlined I think, and he was a BFormas horse, beautiful...a very dark mahagony bay, not a dilute color AT ALL, with VERY light amber eyes, very VERY striking looking, even from a distance....He was last in Pennsylvania....I'll have to eventually dig up a pic of him, I dont recall if I still have it...its been awhile!

An Alicante daughter, MoonGoddess has the light colored eyes.... Except they are not really amber they are more gold colored. Indians call them wolf eyes... They were blue when she was born and she was registered as a cremello..... but she's a palomino....

The Puerto Ricans I know call them goat eyes and said Kofresi had them. Our goats have eyes the color of real lemonade - really pale - so they must have been really interesting looking.

I have two buckskin mares (mother/daugher) with amber/goat eyes. Both descend from Kofresi/Dulce Sueno. They are very striking and folks are constantly taken by the intensity of the look.

Hello,
I am new to the forum. I live in New Hampshire and own 4 puertorican paso finos mares and 1 gelding.
I cannot say enough good things about this breed. I am hooked!
I have an El Indio grandson who is PPR and has golden eyes. He is a dun with flaxen mane and tail. With his gold eyes, he looks gold allover
I believe his grandfather, El Indio, had golden eyes.
I dont know if these are considered "puertorican eyes" but he has them!
