The fact that I haven’t done enough different stuff with Michico lately means that he’s hot, hot, hot -no matter what we do. I decided to take him to the show because he needs to go places and do things again to calm down and not act like a fruitcake as soon as he gets out of his pasture. I would have been happy as long as I didn’t get excused from my classes…

I kind of forgot that Michico settles down and completely relies on me when he’s in a new, and scary, environment. He was really spooky, there were 4-5 places along the rail he spooked at every time we passed them. Not to mention the sounding board. We went over it at least 20 times in the morning to practice, until he didn’t even hesitate before he stepped on. In every class he put the brakes on before he stepped on to the darn board. SIGH. Did I mention that he spooked his way around the arena in every class?

Despite all this… we came home with 3 red and one blue

I think we need to go to more shows. LOL

I’ll let PH tell you about the ribbons she got.

The pictures are a bit blurry… I didn’t think you could shake my camera enough to get that amount of distortion on the setting it had. LOL

This is PH and I chatting with friends in the stands

This is from the largo race, we did go quite fast, but not this fast. LOL This is where Michico took his blue and Zar a red. You can see that Michico and I are on the railing, while PH and Zar goes way inside of us. Zar even cut a couple of corners way closer around the sounding board than this. Michico kept even with him all the way –on the railing, for 5 laps until the last lap when I decided that if no one else listened to the loudspeakers begging us to stay on the railing I wouldn’t either. We just passed PH and Zar on the last corner, and PH and I pretty much overtook the other horses (including someone who started behind us because she’d win it anyway, she said. LOL)

PH was really good and gave several kids pony rides too. (Something I can’t do with Michico, he just spooks way too much and acts like someone is going to kill him if we try to lift a kid to his back. Sigh) Anyway, here she is spreading the Paso smile…

I had a ball and will definitely practice some before next show. LOL

It was a fun show at the SC state fair in Columbia. It's a pure PR show, but they have some open classes for all of us. It was so much fun... I will definitely go to more shows, but I will practice before the next one. LOL

What classes did you go in? :D

We took second in performance, pleasure, and versatility. The first was, as I said, in largo. He was completely nuts after the largo race, it felt like he was skipping with all feet on the ground at the same time. I've got to practice on largo and then slow down afterwards. LOL
I did find a small arena where I could do a couple of laps of largo before the race, just to let him go and reinforce not braking into a gallop. That plan worked fine, but after the race all he wanted to do was to run. LOL

Yay! Pics! Hast, I want all of them please!

Yes, see, in the largo race, they didn't set up any cones, so Zar and I kept the inside lane. I never did hear anything about staying to the outside though  Oops! I thought it was quite humorous that a purebred Columbian beat all the purebred Puerto Ricans with room to spare! Zar is 1/2 Puerto Rican, 1/4 Columbian and 1/4 Peruvian. He can fly and I was very impressed that he didn't break gait! It was a BLAST! I expected to come in last! Didn't expect to come in 2nd.

Yes, Michico brought down the house there too! Everywhere we rode, ppl were pointing at him and whispering and lots of ppl were telling Elaine how beautiful he was, etc...

Zar was absolutely wonderful! Especially with the kids!! We gave a ride to about 6 kids (is that right Hast?) We got 3 thirds and a second. Second was in the largo race, the thirds were all in the same as Hast. Except Versatility, we didn't go in that one.

It was an absolute BLAST!!!!!!!!!

LOL PH, the funniest was how they oh and ah'd over Michico and told me what a beautiful horse he is... how nicely collected he was (and pointed out between them to look at how collection should look  ) and when they asked about his bloodlines they really did a double take when I assured them that he's pure Colombian. LOL I got a couple of, "He's very refined, ...for being a Colombian."  Too funny.

Ditto! we talked about that on the way home. I loved how gentle you were with the horses, and gave them a pat just because...

I was kind of scared of you at first... LOL but after the first class I knew I didn't need to be. I SO enjoyed the show, and your -all the show officials- job. I just wish paso shows did like dressage shows and told you what to work on before next show. Maybe I'll catch on if I show more, huh? LOL

I'm not a scary person, I promise I'm nice!!!

You girls did great! Keep up the good work, the best part was hearing what a great ambassador you were being while outside of the ring!

I can't help but come and pat the horses, they are my passion and my life. I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't love it!

Oh uh

I just can't put any newbies on Michico, he's just too hot right now. If I can ride him every day he'll settle down, at least somewhat. but I've never dared put kids who can't ride on him. Most kids I know who can ride are afraid of getting on him... He LOOKS like a fire breathing dragon, they don't realize how gentle pasos are.
