ASB can clarify Turbo's gaits further, but here are some pics of Phoebe and Turbo from the fun show on Sat. What gaits are you guys seeing?

Those are racking horses. Phoebe and I entered the Pleasure Racking class. Can you tell Phoebe hates being crowded?

If you had a nice largo horse there, there would be better comparison, but yes, the footfall pattern is the same...I think TWs do what we'd refer to as andadura, it's in between paso gait and pace.
I agree that 'some' TWs are as smooth as glass...also there are some Pasos super smooth like that...Boyd's new boy looks like one, Santiago is one, Zar is one when she's in largo. What I find the big difference is in the two breeds is athleticism. Pasos will gait circles around a TW while it's still thinking about turning. I like TWs..they are like a Cruise Ship...very smooth, very big, very comfortable. They make a great larger 'husband's mount' and can usually keep up with Paso Finos fine. ;-) And they normally have sweet comparitively laid-back dispositions.
What I've laughed at here is when they invite us along and say they'll wait for us. You KNOW who ends up waiting for who...LOL

Pics 1, 2, and 3 are a rack, 3 looks much more lateral . Pic 3 shows only one hoof on the ground! The old definition I learned for singlefoot is that there is ever only one foot on the ground, if it shows more than one at any time its a rack.
Pic 4 looks like a nice corto.
Nice pics!

This is our largo mare for comparison. She's no where near in her speed largo here. she's only 13 2 but what a stride and what speed!!!

mel does have a nice largo horse, she just doesnt have her opened up in those pictures. phoebe can move out.
mel, you and ASB forgot to smile. you were supposed to be having fun, remember?
that walking horse gait transfers to the saddle as a different kind of movement. many of them are pretty smooth, but it is a different kind of motion.

Smile, what is that? ASB and I are very serious people. We never ever ever smile.
Actually, I was trying for the Cowboy Ed serious "I am having my picture made" serious face.
And Ed is right, Phoebe can move out when I let her. :D

This logo was made from a picture of Sandy's Motorcycle in largo. It is a blurry picture, but you can see that horses in full largo really get some extention...this is what I was thinking of when comparing to a rack.
Now can you imagine a Speed Largo class...like the Speed Racking one?

How is the largo different from the Peruvian's gait? (Of course, the Peruvians have the termino that Paso Finos don't have.) They also have a evenly timed 4 beat gait. The extended largo stride looks like their paso llano.

The difference in feel to me is the difference between a boat traveling over foot high waves comared to a boat traveling on 4 inch ripples. The Walkers I've ridden just have alot more float to the gait. The ones I rode were not rough at all, just more up and down motion and a slower footfall than the paso finos

I watched a paso fino do a significant termino, (not quite as strong as a peruvian) I asked if there was peruvian in it's linage and was told absolutly not. Colombian.

My Lucia has some termino in her gait, more significant when she was moving out.......I don't have any pictures of it, but noticed it when I used to ride because I could see her front feet off to the side......

I have read somewhere, perhaps this forum, that some Paso Finos have Peruvian blood in their ancestry. That might account for the termino. Does PFHA pentalize termino in the show ring? Some Peruvians have lots of lift and termino, some just a bit. I must say that it does look odd, from the ground and from the saddle.

Termino is not exclusive to the Peruvian breed.... years ago many Andalusians were gaited AND had termino... a good example would be the horse Caballeroso de Nevasco a stallion I used to ride... many of the broodmares had termino too.
It would be more likely the termino in the Paso Fino came from Andalusian blood...especially for the Colombian Paso Finos.
I have ridden behind quite a few Paso Finos that displayed termino...true termino all the way down from the shoulder, and not just "paddling" (from the knee down...more confo related)
Those Pasos did not however have extreme termino like my Peruvian Paso did...
