This is more of an FYI post than anything.

I found Pesquisa hobbling about in the pasture on Saturday, very sore in the general butt area. I brought her in, did a palp, which she was very obliging for. High up on her left inner thigh she had a HUGE swelling, plus some edema on that side of her belly, veins along her inner buttcheek engorged. One more call to the vet, oh joy. She told me this was likely a groin pull, due to going spread eagle on ice (or a collision with Indi who at the same time was found with a hock injury - healing well). Treatment: Banamine, Antibiotic to prevent this from getting infected, hot packs. Now you just try to give banamine to a picky Hilachas bred foal, or anything nasty tasting when said foal is already quite defensive due to pain. hahahaha. Fortunately MSM works well, so to heck with the banamine. And then, after doing "battle" all day Christmas, I gave up and threw the antibiotics (sulfa/trim) in her food and told her eat it or not. She loved it. Bugger.
Today the swelling changed to hot, hard, smaller, but felt uglier to me. Pes felt fine, bucking and frting around. Veins were not only engorged but hard. This scared me, I'm thinking thrombophlebitis. Called the vet: normal coarse, let her move, continue with what we're doing. Estimated time of full recovery: anywhere from soon to 6'ish months. Probable affect on future use: nil, due to her young age, this kind of injury has excellent prognosis, may leave a lump. Whew. She's gonna be fine - God willin and she don't go running into more trouble!

To all who listened to my b'tchin and whining this weekend, THANK YOU.
