What is the best kind of waterproof turnout rug? I am looking for something breathable and stay-onable for my arabian mare. She always stands out in the rain and ends up freezing to death when the temps are low.

I don't need anything heavyweight because I do not want her to sweat! More or less I guess I need lightweight water protection for her!

I have never blanketed before, and hate to do it but she needs something!

Before our barn was built, I purchased a waterproof, windproof and breathable "Saxon" brand turnout rug. It comes up high over the withers/neck, has a flap for the tail and extra long length to almost halfway down the Peruvian's foreleg.
The only thing I disliked about it, was it had no contour seam over the back, so it would sort of "hang" on her neck and I hated that it might rub her mane hairs. I think it was an in-my-head thing because she had no mane loss from the blanket.
I was very happy with the rug's performance. The blanket was not especially "heavy" as far as insulation goes, but I could put it on Poquita and she would stay warm and dry in the worst weather.
