My guess is everything has fallen into place and Rose Mary now has a new neighbor and at least one horse she has sold is coming back close to home with her new neighbor.

Jane wouldn't move to Florida. She is too smug about not having any snakes in Canada to ever move to Florida. ;)

I'd say the property they wanted to sell, sold, and they were able to buy the property they wanted.

*giggling and laughing* You are sooo right, Heidi and Lisa. (Mind you, there are snakes in Canada ... just not in our part of it! They'd freeze their little tushes in the winter.)

And Fuego hit it on the head!

WE ARE MOVING!

The developers removed their conditions last night and as of today the deal will be moving ahead. I should be Rose's neighbour in somewhere between 2 weeks and a month! YIPPY SKIPPY! (I've not slept these last few nights for worrying. Our realtor kind of messed up, but it all worked out in the long run!)

This is SUCH excellent news! This will be SUCH an excellent situation! (And yes, TWO of Rose's horses will be moving back nearer to her ... The Divine Miss Em, who will be taking me along trails in the Blackfoot this winter and The Imp Damita, who will be my up-and-coming trail horse.)

Rose and I will be riding every week!

And besides that, our critters will have AUTOMATIC HEATED WATERERS all winter so we don't have to haul water around when it's -30 outside!

And we won't have to go haying all over the neighbourhood now! It'll all be right there in our back yard! (Right now we have a forest in our backyard ... and while it is nice, it makes haying difficult.)

Now all I have to do is figure out how to put an addition on the house in the dead of winter. The house is so small! 1,100 square feet ... with 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, a spacious old fashioned hall, livingroom, formal dining room and separate kitchen all on the one floor. Needless to say, there isn't one room with enough room to swing a cat!

But the rest of the place! Gadzooks! A big old (falling down -- but David will fix) barn that was used for year and years for big ol' draught horses. Our own dugout. Pastures 'til the cows come home -- or 'til they leave -- whichever they want now *grin*. Hayfields so big it takes my breath away. And no traffic. That's the REAL biggie! It is quiet, quiet, quiet.

I have died and gone to heaven, folks!

Make that, "I will have died and gone to heaven once we get through moving and Christmas". Tra la! Tra la!

11-01-2006, 05:18 AM
Yep ... a pond ... sorta.

Ours (right now) is just a plain dug out where cattle go to drink. I think it's about 8-10 feet deep ... probably 40-50 feet long and 20-30 feet wide.(Saves farmers from having to truck water to cattle in the summer months.) But I hope to fix it up and wind up with trout in it. I think it would be a hoot to have a fish fry every fall!

Ooooooooh, this is exciting!

House warming party will be on Boxing Day. You're all invited ... if you can stand the weather! *grin*

Otherwise, next summer we will be entertaining on the front lawn. It's HUGE! I mean SERIOUSLY HUGE. Folks are going to camp out there!

And, who knows, Rose and I MAY even host the second annual Paso Fino Friends Get Together at MY place because it's that much closer to The Blackfoot!

320 acres. That's just 20 acres more than where we are now, but HERE we don't have the open spaces. (And we have the frickin' highway ... 85,000 vehicles every cotton pickin' day ... and the railway, though I don't mind it.) At the new place, Rose and I will have all sorts of room to ride ... and we can ride amongst the cattle.

I just can't believe this is happening! Yippy skippy!

I am so excited.

I have not had a riding companion since I moved out of northern Alberta 6 .5 years ago. I work 12 hour shifts as a control room operator for a pipeline company. I work days and nights on a rotating schedule. This shift work makes it very hard to find someone to go riding with. Most people want to ride on weekends and I only get two weekends off a month. I like to spend my weekends off with my kids, and neither of my kids are really into the horses. So, I need a riding partner who can arrange their riding schedule arround my days off.

Jane works for herself and therefore she has very flexable hours. Plus she rides a Paso Fino! To top it all off, Jane and I get along great together. Jane has been one of my best friends since she first came to our farm looking for a gaited horse. Currently we find it hard to get together because we live almost two hours apart.

Now we will only be 6 miles apart and we can ride together all the time. Plus we can work together, play tgether, shop together....

It is going to be great and I can not wait!!!

Erin ... you're on to something there!

What say we plan on it this coming summer? A road trip! You wouldn't even have to bring horses (if you don't want). By next summer Rose should have half a dozen horses under saddle and ready to go, though we might need a few extra saddles!

You can camp on my front lawn! We'll ride the miles and miles of groomed trails in The Blackfoot (winding trails, deer, moose, pothole lakes) and then we'll bar-be-cue on the lawn ... sit around the bonfire ... and if you PROMISE you're coming, I'll install an outdoor hot tub! (Not a threat. That's a promise!)[/u]

Rose Mary Axell
11-02-2006, 09:28 AM
Great Idea Jane

And I agree, don't bring any horses, but do bring your horse trailer and a cheque book. You would not want to drive all the way up here without taking some prime nothern trail horses home with you now would you?

If you take young ones we could probably fit 5 or 6 in a trailer for you. We do have lots of colour to add to your herd...
Roan, dun, grulla, pinto...

Oh WOW!!! Sounds like heaven!! Little by little we're moving most of our horses to a boarding barn so we'll be free to travel more. Need a bigger trailer and truck though.

How much is land up there??? Kyle hates heat!!

*Tee hee! Tee hee!*
*Giggle. Snort. Cackle.*

Let's make it a date! We could have SO much fun!

And MGs ... it depends where you want that land! Close to Edmonton and just a few acres with the house already there? Lots. (But that's only recently. We're in a BOOM like you wouldn't believe up here!) Looking for quite a bit of land, say, an hour and a half out? $2,000/acre. Looking in the boonies? Probably $1,000/acre, maybe less, though I don't know that for sure. (A developer just bought half our place at $11,000/acre! But we're 45 minutes from Edmonton and our land is designated as "country residential", so that makes a HUGE difference.)

Ooooooh, come on! Come! What a blast! Yee haw!

Alberta in the summer is great! We don't get much rain in the summer at all. Temperatures around 75F. Blue skies. And 75 miles of fabulous trails just 4 miles down the road!

Road trip! Road trip! Road trip!

I'd like to...I wonder if crossing the border at Sweetgrass is any better than it "used" to be... that was such a hassle...I don't want to ever go through that again. What is the trick to getting in and out of Canada, with a horse.... without hassles, hold-ups and being treated like a criminal?

lisa l aka marci
11-02-2006, 07:26 PM
OK - one date to NOT have this is the weekend after 4th of July - there is the Cobleskill show that weekend - and we DO get some Canadians there! (Lois and Co!).......

Maybe toward the end of July? When us poor people down here are ready for a break from the heat?

Definitely let me know! I'll put in for some vacation time and take a road trip! I'd leave Marci home (She'd have a foal at her side still) - but I'd be willing to car pool!!!!

Minouri
11-03-2006, 12:12 PM
Erin,

I'd like to go! We've got Disney the first week of July so I can't go then. But if we can cement a date to do....like during her Paso friends time....I can arrange everything here.

Not sure if you'd really want to camp with a sissy like me, though. I'm still a bit tramautized by being caught peeing in my trailer....lol

Are we bringing men to this? I'm not sure Tony could get time off but I can ask him.

I know he wouldn't let me drive an empty trailer up there though...lol...

11-03-2006, 01:42 PM
Jane - ya know I love ya, but you are waaaay out there in ALBERTA! It would be a heck of a haul. No one would be talking to one another after a car pool/truck pool of that magnitude. Believe me!

Our Paso Fino Friends ride is the August long weekend (August 4, 5, 6)
You are all welcome to join us then.

Terry, to get a horse in Canada without a hassle, contact a customs broker and talk to them. Make all your arrangements ahead if time and make sure all your paper work is in order. They can walk you through it. Personally I hate going through the Sweet grass / Coutts Customs. I think I told you how horrible I was treated there, and I am a Canadian resident. My horse shipper avoids that border crossing like the plague. If you are serious about coming up I can ask them what crossing they use. I know that they use a crossing that is much friendlier.

Erin, the closest city is Edmonton Alberta. The little town we are by is called Lamont. It is 40 minutes North East of Edmonton on Highway 15. We are also just east of Elk Island National Park. (See link below)
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/getaways/231302_elkisland07.html

Our favorite place to ride is here Cooking Lake / Blackfoot recreation Area: http://www.cd.gov.ab.ca/enjoying_alberta/parks/planning/gateway/pubsandmedia/Blackfoot%20summer%20WEB.pdf

Here is a link to the trail systems at Blackfoot.
http://www.cd.gov.ab.ca/enjoying_alberta/parks/planning/gateway/pubsandmedia/Blackfoot%20summer%20WEB%20map.pdf

I can probably outfit a few people with horses, but most of my mares have foals at that time of the year so my riding stock is somewhat limited, but we would love to meet some of you guys and take you out to see some beautiful country. We are simple folk here so don't expect the Ritz, but we are very hospitable and love to meet new people. Besides we put on a dang good
Bar-B-Q!

Jane Hurl

And I'll get a hot tub! I will!

Then in the evening we can sit around in the hot tub and drink mint juleps ... or something. *grin*

Rose Mary...Sweetgrass & Coutts is a straight shot for me...but I'd still like to hear of a better crossing provided it is not too far out of the way...
