These are the costumes I've made.
Beautiful sis-in-law is wearing last year's costume and I am wearing a new one I made this year. I got smart and made the vest, bodices and skirts LACE-UP to accomodate different sizes. ;-) Brown costume also has a chocolate crushed velvet skirt. I still need to add gold trim to bodice and choc skirt.

Both costumes have veil material, but I haven't made anything with it yet. Shimmery gold for the brown costume, shimmery blue/purple for the blue. Some will drape from the reins. Both also need headpieces and I'm not sure what to make...

I did not have enough time to shop for fabric to finish the blue costume. I wanted a silver/gray blouse and underskirt (more like goucho-skirt). No fabric stores had the type of fabric I wanted, so I used store bought black knit top and skirt.

Hubby said he'd only wear a kilt if he could have a sword, so I said "Yes!"

Arleen invited me to the 12/05/06 parade. If I can get Q home and ride her 3-5 times every week I think we'll be good to go. Let me look online for a Grinch costume pattern and I'll see. If it isn't too involved I could probably whip one out...

I'm thinking red/white Santa-like coat and hat. Green shirt and pants? Sorta 'furry'?

I would love to be able to make things like that. I am not creative in anyway. I just have to hope for the best. Those comstumes are awesome.

Yes need hairy pants, show coverings, gloves, the Santa coat covers up the shirt anyway. I am sure I could find the mask without a problem. Renting one cost about $100 and this time of year never know when it will rain. So I would like one of my own.

Someone on another forum asked how much it cost, and I think I spent about $100-$125 in materials and it took about 8-10 hours to prep and sew the bodice and skirt. It would take more $/time if I made the blouse and underskirt, too.

I purchased all of these supplies over several months and made them a little at a time. I knew the colors I wanted and was able to purchase the ones I wanted when they came on sale or used my monthly mailer coupons. I'm thinking the 100/125 looks high...I'll have to check my receipts...I know I bought everything on sale. Maybe closer to 80/90?

Hmmmm....I bet a rennaisance dress would look GREAT in purple! I'll have to see if they have crushed velvet in purple at JoAnn's...
