Spirit Air is having a great sale on airline fares. $7 one way flights.

I took advantage of the bargains and am going back to PR.

January 17 through January 21 from Orlando to San Juan roundtrip airfare is $128. The flight back to Orlando is an early bird flight but for this price, I'm not complaining.

Check it out, join me if you can.

I've been watching airfares to PR and you can't go cheaper than about $200, so this is a deal!

I'm marking my calendar now! That is great airfare! I might not be able to leave on the 17th, but I might be able to come Friday thru Sunday. (That work thing ya know  ) I wonder if PasoMom would be able to go....this would be right up her alley.

Well, here's the deal.

The $7 airfare is only for specific flights on specific days. The special fares only last for a few days. So Hurry!

I got the $7 airfare for an early flight out of San Juan and then paid the regular airfare out of Orlando, which is $79. Together with tax comes to $128.

Typically, it's $79 one way. With taxes that's a little over $200.

The last time I saw a deal like this, I could've gone both ways for $7--$65 total with taxes and didn't buy it. As soon as I refreshed the screen, the deal was gone, so they go that fast!

Come on if you can!!! A friend of mine has already bought her tickets, so at least there's a crowd of two.

I'll be checking into cheapy but clean places to stay. Will let you know where I'm staying at.

Spiritair.com

Menu on the top navigates to their specials.

I'm flying out of Orlando on January 17 1130 am flight. Catching the early bird flight out of San Juan on January 21 740 am flight. That's the one for $7.

This is a casual, come as you are, go how you want to trip. I've got a list of horses I want to see specifically, so there's no committment about it. I'm interested in cheap travel--share a rental car, share accomondation expenses.

 One more, this is where I lived in PR.

How about sharing a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house, fully furnished at $150/night (6 people maximum)? So one more person, $150 divided three ways, $50 a person/night, could get you this....

The website was working for me.

I checked the flights I reserved (yesterday morning) yesterday afternoon and the $7 one was already sold out. When that happens, it'll still offer the flight but at the regular price. There were other $7/flight deals but not that one.

That's why I snatched it up. There may be some other deals on the days specified but if the query doesn't show the $7 deal, it's gone.

I checked spiritair.com this morning; the deals are gone. :( :(

If anyone has some flexibility with travel, Spirit Air offers these deals periodically. When I hesitated on the $65 round trip air fare, I really kicked myself! When I refreshed the computer screen, it was gone never to return.

I guess there's people like me waiting to snatch up the deals as fast as they can. Since I've been wanting to go back to PR, I've been looking into airfare prices. The cheapest I can find is $200. So, knowing Spirit Air offers quick deals, I've been watching the web site like a hawk.

Still love for anyone to join me on those dates. I'll probably stay in Isabela most of the time.

Were you able to get into their website????

Folks, this deal of Spirit Air is for real. I was a frequent flyer with American Airlines to go to PR for the Magazine business ... then a Paso Fino breeder told me about Spirit Air and I thought it was too good to be true ... 8-) ... But it's real ... I have used them several times and I am delighted with their service ... the best way to take advantage of the deals is go to www.spiritair.com and signed up for the deals (Your name and e-mail) and they will send you an e-mail just about every other week with their "Red Light Specials" ... but trust me the deals will not last more than a day or two ... :D

Candice Burger

No problem.

http://www.spiritair.com/welcome.aspx

For the specials

http://www.spiritair.com/Welcome.aspx?pg=specials

Jet Blue also offers some reasonable deals. They fly into Ponce and Aquadilla (old Ramey AFB flight lines).
http://jetblue.com/

On average, Jet Blue offers better deals than Spirit Airlines. I can fly from Orlando direct to Aquadilla, which is only 15-20 minutes from Isabela for $240. That's pretty good. Most airlines charge a bundle if the flight isn't going to San Juan. And Jet Blue goes to Ponce too.

Orbitz offers flights to San Juan from Orlando/Tampa for around $200.

Anyway, think about it. In a couple of weeks I'll be reserving a place to stay. For cheapy travelers, we can always rent a house for a couple of nights and that might ease the pain of the airfare. Plus sharing a rental car will be cheaper too if we travel in one car. Honestly I can't find anything cheaper than about $50/person/night and this on/very near the beach or in a furnished studio/apartment/house.

OK I got in but no deals. We'll keep searching!!!

Here is something to think about when you are planning a trip to PR. They celebrate their biggest shows during the first 5 months of the year ... Opposite to Hurricane season !!

February = Candelaria Fair, in the city of Manatí (45 min from San Juan)
March = Dulce Sueño Fair (the biggest) in the city of Guayama - 1 hr from San Juan)
April = Feria Tierra Adentro, in the mountain city of Utuado, (1:30 hrs from San Juan)
Mayo = "Feria del Campo", in the city of Hatillo, (1 hr from San Juan)
Mayo = Agropolis, in San Juan

The early part of the year (Jan - March) is quite fresh compare to summer. During that time the temperature during the day is mid to low 80's and during the nights is mid to low 70's

The only indoor show above is Feria del Campo in Hatillo.
There are plenty of hotels in San Juan.
There are hotels in the nearby areas of the shows and are less expensive ... do your homework!

Correction on the hotel rates

What I have found are 1-3 bedroom studios, apartments, and houses that charge 85-175 per "unit" per night. All have furnished kitchens. Assuming 2 people/room that's anywhere from $30-$50/person/night. All depends on the group traveling together. Others go for $65 and up for hotel rooms with one double bed. No kitchen and no atmosphere.

These are NICE places. Some can sleep way more than 2-6 people but that's assuming no one cares about privacy and only want a place to sleep, clean up and eat. Sorta reminds me of my gymkhana days in PR when we camped out in tents with several in a tent. All we cared about is some place to lay our head, a shower, and good company. 3-4 days like that is good for the soul. I ususally cook some meals to defray costs. Planning my menus now....

Yep, plan ahead, it won't get any cheaper than that for in season prices.

Yes I am the party going to PR with Candice Burger. Went last year - was wow'ed with what I saw. There was one colt that would be competitive fino at nationals and he was just a baby (2 years). PPR! Want to see some of the other blood lines.

The trip last year was wonderful - the people were extreamly nice people, gracious and hospitable.

To anyone interested I recommend such a trip - going with Candice would be a good thing - Candice already has contacts and she lived on the island when her parents worked there, kinda knows her way around the island - knows where the secret areas are, and we are planning on going to those places this time.

Of course we are planning on input from Raphael. We are planning on his being there with us!

We are not going for fancy, just clean, comfortable, safe and close to the areas of the island where the horses are.

This is being planned as an educational trip, learning what is on the island and what lines are producing best with what.

You could join us for the trip if you wish - if you are interested - contact Candice.

Encourage others who might be interested - I think tht knowledge would be valuable to anyone interested in PPR.
