This is one of my 06 Pinto colts. He has the Sabino markings very pronounced. He has his mothers beautiful flaxen tail and he is built. I have never had a baby with this much roaning and such. His mother is chestnut, with no pinto behind her. She is a Contrapunto grandaughter on the botton and by Camillo ( Resorte IV grandson) on the top.

The father is of course Bandolero.

I only had 4 Pinto colts this year. I just have the 2 chestnuts left and this boy was a surprise.

None of the girls have anything like this.

Would like you thoughts on him.

Thank you
Susan

I think he is wow. I think he would be pretty if he was plain ol' chestnut, but wow.

I agree with the WOW!

I like a flashy horse and his is flashy. Not only colorful, but that one photo shows that he appears to have that "look at me" attitude.

I don't usually like that much white either but once you put a saddle on him you won't see a lot of that white. He's got a gorgeous head though which redeems his lack of spots a good deal. I really, really like that head. Short, refined...Does it come from your stallion?
He can live in my pasture...it wouldn't bother me at all.
Yes he is sabino and so is your boy if I remember the photo correctly. You'll need to be careful when you breed him to sabino mares. Too much sabino gets you a horse with too much white. A lot of white is usually harder to sell. Course if that white is a max sabino stallion then you can have all sorts of breeding possibilities.

He must have gotten his head from Bandolero. Fantasia has a sort of long head. Bandoler has a very beautiful head and most of his babies lool a lot like him.

I only have 4 Pinto mares at this time. All are tobiano and 2 of them are his sisters and one is his mom. I am breeding to solid almost 100% of the time.

I have 10 pinto fillies from 05 and 06, but they are all his half sisters.

What you you expect from him that would be different than breeding with a tobiano stallion and solid mares. Would you expect pinto more of the time? I have seen pictures of Sabino pintos and haven't cared for them, but this guy catches everyones eye. Even mine. Lots of style and very friendly.

Here is another picture of him from this morning. He is eating a leaf!

Is some sabino but most of white is from the tobiano with just dark in flank - then sabino over that. I do not like the tobiano mix with sabino horse it cover the unique sabino marks.

But, I do agree, he has a stunning face and head. Very pretty boy.

I'm not going to keep him. I have his father, uncle , brother and a cousin, all Pinto stallions or upcoming stallions. I am going to advertise him as soon as I can decide on a price. I know he will be harder to sell because of his coloring. That is why I was asking if he might produce a higher ratio of pinto from solid mare than a tobiano. He has everything else.

Susan - Are you referring to the colt in the photo? If so then you can expect spots 50% of the time (but I bet you knew that). If you breed him to a sabino expressed mare you stand a better chance of getting spots. With his heavy roaning you might also get a sabino roan which is something I've never seen in a paso. It's one of my favorite paint jobs.
I think Terry Wallace disagrees with me but we've found that we get a higher percentage of spotted foals when we breed our spotted stallion to a mare with even minimally expressed sabino. Since sabino is a polygene and connects in different ways to other genes breeding sabinos is always interesting.
I love exploring color in horses. There are times when I find myself looking at a stallion and thinking hmmm...wonder what he and so and so would produce. Instead of looking at her weak points and his strong ones. Breeding for color can become an addiction!

So this guy is a tobiano with sabino, right?

Terry Wallace

I think Terry Wallace disagrees with me

What am I disagreeing with Polly?

I have found that sabino will over-ride tobiano at times. If you breed a tobiano to a sabino, you often get sabino... high white legs & such but few spots on the body.

Its as if sabino can be "more dominant" than tobiano.

This colt looks tobiano with rabicano ticking in the flank.

Who are the parents?

Sorry Terry. I thought you disagreed with my idea that if you want spots breed sabino to tobiano. I stand corrected. *smile*

I love his head! He reminds me of my mothers boy Cas...from Tammi P. The same kind of robicano (sp??) markings. Some solid spots and some roaning spots too.
I personally don't care for quite so much white either...but still a VERY nice boy! Hope you find him a good home.
