I have video too, once I figure out how to download it. This filly is amazing to watch, she gets down and really goes after the ball. We normally use the verbal cue 'kick it' when teaching horses to play with/move the ball. She doesn't give us a chance, she just goes for it on her own. We have to take the ball out of the arena when we are schooling her, because all she wants to do is play with it. She caught on very quickly what the game was all about.

She looks like she's having a lot of fun with it. Funny how a horse with a big play drive learns things and ENJOYS them where other horses consider it work or a trick. I've seen quite a few colts like this, but she's the first filly I've seen that liked to play like this. She's going to be fun to train and ride. I bet she has a sense of humor too.

Sheri, looks like you're going to have a really nice horse there. Good job Nola! I'm now really sorry I didn't connect all this before. I could have visited you all when Sheri was there.

Oh well, next time.

How cute! Where can I get a big ball like that? My colt and fillies love their balls from Wally World but they don't last very long. :-?

We will have to ask Macadoo (Marebelle) where she ordered the balls from..

The funny thing is this filly was always kinda one to keep to herself..was always kept with 2-3 other horses and she would socialize but was content to be off in the corner of the pasture ..pretty even keel but on occasion would have a temper tantrum. She would come up to you in the pasture for a meet and greet .."Hi ..How's your day?..Can I have my neck scratched?? Thanks..See you at next feeding time".. She was the one who I could talk into almost anything..standing on huge stumps..walking over the scary things (tarps, big logs) as a weanling and I trailer loaded her by myself the first time in about 1/2 hour to 45 mins just by talking to her and coaxing..This play thing surprises me..but her pretty steady personality under saddle so far isnt a big surprise..but so far she is what I hoped to get when I bred her momma..she is almost the spitting image of her mother at that age only darker and more hair...If she follows in her hoofprints she will fill out at about age 5...I am tickled pink with this horse (as I am with Bruja....but this one I have had high hopes for since the big blue cooler with the swimmers showed up in 2002  )

I got the ball from the Pat Parelli site...My Torey really likes it too...It's something to do in the arena besides work, keeps them from getting bored.....Dusty lives in the arena and he totally ignores it...

I recognized the ball as a Parelli play ball...a LOT more expensive then the Walmart ones! A lot hardier, but they WILL pop them too, so I don't leave mine with any horses.

The first time I let Bruiser with the ball, he went up and tried to bite it, then he tried to jump on it. Then I took it away! They are like $40...way to much too POP! I have smooshed balls in each pasture, a teather ball for play, and a Squiggly Wiggly ball for Bruiser. It's pretty tough - so far.

I work every horse with the Parelli ball...but it is funny to see which horses go to it and play with it on their own. Bruiser, Buddy and Trooper are my three players. I think they'd play socker (with a lot of biting and tossing) if they were together. That is why I find it funny that Albejta likes to play...I've never seen a mare or filly play with one before, just colts and geldings.

I can see why you like her so much...lots of personality. Sounds like she's going to be a go-anywhere trusting trail horse. Lucky you!

I also like those balls with handles on them for the colts and my stallion--he really likes them. Can't remember the name, but everyone knows what I'm talking about. Ok, I remember, jolly balls. I don't buy the bigger ones for horses but a medium sized one for dogs. They are lighter and easier for the young ones to pick up and toss. I see Jolly Pets makes a tougher ball, so I might try that instead.

Surprisingly, the Wally World balls last longer than you would think. But now that the young ones are bigger, they are deflating WW balls faster. The colt used to love picking up his ball and smooshing it against the fillies and bugging the mares with it. It was hilarious to watch! He found out real fast which ones would ignore him and which didn't think it was too funny.

My two fillies really like the balls too but didn't get much chance with the colt around. So, I had two out there to play with.
