Hello fellow Paso lovers! I’m new to this forum and I already have a question. :D I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on a mare our farm purchased this fall. She is very sweet and has a wonderful, constant gait. She probably would have been considered Fino 10 or 15 years ago.

We purchased this mare from a local Paso Fino breeder (and good friend) and she said that she thinks this mare is full Colombian. (the mare was not bred on her farm.) Someone kindly pointed out that the mare Zandunga on her dam’s side is PPR, so I tried to do some research and it turns out that yes, she is PR.
So... I was curious to see if anybody could tell me anything about the horses on our mare's pedigree. I am still new enough to the Paso breed that most of the names on this pedigree are unfamiliar to me. I am aware of Mar de Plata LaCE and some of his accomplishments, but that’s about all.

To veiw her pedigree try this link: http://www.pasoregistry.com/db/Tree.asp?SearchType=1

If that doesn't work, you can look her up at Pasoregistry.com. Her name is Tapadera and her PFHA # is 18775

Thanks!
- Vanessa

Thanks! I’m glad to be around so many knowledgeable people. Sad to say, but the Paso Fino isn’t exactly top of the list here in Montana and finding good information from locals is practically impossible. We do have some great breeders here though... Alberto Sierra being one of them. I’m just thankful for the Internet. I’ve learned a ton thanks to it. ;-)

That's exactly why this website was created. ;-) As a newbie myself, I wanted a place to learn in a friendly environment. We sure to have some great ppl on the site who are full of knowledge, so I'm sure you will get lots of help. I would love to hear your suggestions too. :D

I am Barb Preiss and I bred Zandunga in the early 80's to Coral LaCE. We ended up training the colt Zandungaro and the lady entered him in about everything she could. He won almost every class from pleasure geldings, performance gelding , versatility etc. Carmen Cepero owned Zandunga and sold her to the Postma's in Tarpon Springs. Zandunga was a very large more pleasure type and was also very gentle.
Scherezade was owned by Carmen Micheltti and bred her to Corsario. Corsario was Dominican and a very elegant stallion owned and shown very well by Carmen. I believe he was performance.
You said you knew about Mar de Plata. Mar de Plata sired many gorgeous horses and many won in Bella Forma. He is a foundation sire. He was a Top Ten sire as well. I know lots of personal info about this stallion. Some were so humorous when listening to George La Hood talk of some of the times they had together. George was very proud of the stallion. The stallion was sold to Herb Sutton in California. Barb Preiss

I'm a kind of newbe here also. Glad you found this place.

There are even less people who even know about Paso's where I live.

You tell people you have a Paso Fino and they look at you like your speaking a differnt language.

In my case my horse is a Paso Fino/Morgan cross mare.

Ya know we love pictures and stories! Come. Share with us. :D

Hi Vanessa, I just joined this forum a couple of days ago. I also live in Montana. My mare that I bought 10 months ago was bred here in the state, but was ridden fairly roughly by a rancher before I bought her. She was so thin that I couldn't ride her for a couple of months. My primary goal with her is trail riding, ride and tie, and endurance. We already participated in one Ride and Tie (2 people, one horse, 35 miles) and placed quite well considering our inexperience. This year I'm hoping to ride a couple of 50 milers here in the state. Right now I'm trying out riding bitless, treeless, and shoeless. All is working well and she is travelling less and less hollow. Her best gait is largo, but over the winter we are training in an arena and I'm mosting working on flexing and bending.

Here's a link to her photo--

Her registration number is: 88681 I suspect that she is strongly pleasure, working type lines based on her disposition.

Nancy and Venessa...welcome both of you. Not too many westerners on here and it really does help those of us in remote areas hook up and communicate and help each other.

Here is a website for the western states you might find ineresting: www.westernstatespasofinos.com

It doesn't ahve a BB, but does list events and animals for sale in the area.

You're in a great area to really enjoy what Paso Finos are ALL about - trail riding! I hope to hear more from both of you AND see lots of awesome pictures.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I’ll be sharing plenty of photos and stories in the near future. The colt shown on my avatar is our latest addition. His name is Otoño and he was a late foal. He was born only two months ago! He’s braving the cold well. This little guy is a gaiting machine, just like his dam, also shown in the avatar. His dam is the mare Tapadera, the one I was inquiring about. Otoño will be offered for sale as soon as he is weaned.

Barb - Thank you for bringing me up-to-date on our mare Tapadera. We are very happy with her and can’t wait to start riding her this spring.

nmcreel - I would love to visit more with you. Feel free to e-mail me at river_valley_farm@yahoo.com. We also saved a mare this past April. She too was starved and rode very hard. (Her full story and photos can be seen on our web-page.)

Here’s a picture of Tapadera and her baby Otoño.

And here is Otoño posing for the camera.

Hi Mary, Welcome to the forum. I've been having a blast learning about Paso's on these boards. I know so much through the internet, but nothing through practical experience. Here's a link to my Paso and I fooling around the indoor arena that I usually rent for dog agility. I was quite amused to be in there on my horse yesterday. We're bitless, barefoot, and treeless in this video.

My question for anyone in know is why is her butt going up and down and is it correct. It looks cute to me, but I don't really have a reference yet for what Paso movement is other than my own feel from up top. As you can see she's easy and smooth to ride.
