Today is the coldest day on record in Calgary, Alberta ... EVER.

As I mentioned somewhere else, it was -49F at the airport this morning.

I took my little dog out to pee. They'd used some chemical to melt the ice at the doorway so his little feet got wet. (I didn't realize what had happened.) They froze so badly he was crying within 60 seconds of being outside!

This is truly the pits. Minus freaking 49 Fahrenheit! Unreal. I hope my dogs at home have survived this ... and my lambs and my calves ... not to mention my all grown up horses ... and half grown up Damita! *shudder*

Awwww, I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Hope all of your other critters are ok.

That said, your post made me go put on socks. It's 45 degrees here this morning and I was feeling ok till I read your post. brrrrrr

i really don't know how you and Rose do it up there. and this is from a minnesotan! this is even beyond our extremes! can't imagine how you keep vehicles running and how your animals retain their ears and tails! my heart just fell into my stomach when i read about Rose out there battling the elements on her own while hubby went to town. she needs a speech from you Jane! one accident and it would be all over with in minutes in those temperatures.
Yikes! you guys stay safe up there!

Oh Jane, that is awful. I don't want ANY of that below Zero stuff. We've missed it the last two winters, and if its the result of Global Warming, I'm all for it! ;-) I was born in the northern tip of Maine and there were snow tunnels all over. You had to have a two story house to have daylight in the winter. It was BAD.

They have those booties for dogs, you might get yours some. Protect his feet. I've seen them for sled dogs, so I'm sure they have them in Calgary.

I'm praying all yours and Rose Marie's...and everyone else's animals are OK. :(

Poor Poochie!!!!! My Myles would be an ice cube up there, he has trouble when it gets to a mere 40 degrees, yet he absolutley hates his jacket and would rather go out and shiver...

I'm so thankful we have had mild weather so far, and at this point we have more green in the pasture than we did this summer. Lots more. I could do this til April, eeeeeeeeeasily.

We have green in our pastures too, Georgeguns! Some of it we call spruce. The rest are pine. *grin*

It was 30 degrees this morning outside and most things were frozen, a wind to knock you off your feet as well. Winter has decided to visit. I want to know who sent it??

LOL Jane. Wouldn't have been so bad at all except Troy has to redo the trailer wiring and is frozen solid out there. I had outside chores but elected to do some more unpacking and watch over the puppies.

When I retire we are moving to our 72 degrees average all yr place. Oh yes!

Jenn ... dear ... "frozen solid" at 30F?

Pfft! That's work-outside-all-day-long weather! We REVEL in winter weather like that! If it is that warm this weekend (and it's threatening to be), I will be thrilled because WE ARE MOVING THIS WEEKEND! (Well, we are STARTING to move this weekend. It is going to take at least a full year to move everything over there!)

And lately, whenever I pick up the phone and say, "Hello", if it's Rose, this excited voice says, "It's only 7 (now 4) days 'til you're my neighbour!" *grin*

I can make you a David supper.

Sounds kinky...but who knows? When it's 40 below zero there isn't much else to do. ;-)
