Hello, I want my kids to take lessons. I have a 15 and 13 year old. We have 10 Pasos and have been involved for 10 years, in 4-H, drill, living history, trail, etc. Well we want to jump in to the PFHA showing world. My son is interested in trail and drivinf and country pleasure, my daughter versatily with her pleasure mare and performance with her gelding. We will be willing to drive 1 - 1,5 hours and trailer our horses. Any recommendations. I'm interested in a big barn with kids so mine can get to know other horsey kids here. We are in Sweetwater, South of Knoxville.
We just moved here from Florida.

Try Larry Whitesell. He's not in Knoxville, but he might have some suggestions for you. There's another, Camilo Sanchez, that is closer. He's a tack salesman and a private breeder, but he might be able to help too. Both are knowledgeable and if you are willing to drive, might be close enough. PFHA office should have their contact info.

You can also contact the professional paso fino trainers association.

Take a word from the wise...got to Larry Whitesell's barn....he is in Cookeville....he has incredible trainers working with him and one lesson from them is really worth having.

If you are going to learn, then why not do it right?

:D

I wish I had known about Larry 20 years ago when I first got into this breed! What he teaches really works and both horses and humans are happier and more confident. Just ask Capuchero!

Ditto on Larry Whitesell. He combines Natural Horsemanship with Paso training methods and does an outstanding job training and teaching. Very humane methods. He's also a judge and knows the rules for showing.

And to top it off, he's also a very nice man.

Another ditto here on Larry Whitesell. I just brought a young gelding home from training at Larry's. This horse is a dream to ride, push button, light as a feather. I've been to two of his clinics....Larry is a great teacher.

Ditto on Larry! He is just the BEST!!! His clinics are awesome, but honestly, if you can manage to get to his facility, please do. You won't be disappointed. And, yes, he is the nicest GENTLEMAN!!!

I would highly recommend Alice Page. I have visited her facility which combines paso fino training along with other disciplines. Her barn is absolutely children oriented. They do birthday parties, cook outs, lessons, teach horsemanship. It was great to see a facility where parents came and felt comfortable dropping off their children for the day. And the children were having a blast while learning.

Look up Heath Hughes in Maryville. He puts some really nice riders into the ring. I can't say for sure about the lessons but he does an excellent job.

There is someone else in your area but I can't think of who it is right now to save my life. I know the Tollivers in Greenback, the Wallers in Knoxville, Janet Crampton I think is in Cleveland. Some of those put the top equitation riders in the States out. The Wallers especially. None of these do Pasos though but will teach you truly how to ride or drive.
