Okay! Just saw the logo for the Grand National Horse Show! Did they have a contest? What is your opinion of this one? Did anyone try to submit a logo for this year? or did anyone even have a clue as to the theme?

Just curious! :-? Besides the poll, maybe you could give more detailed opinion!

Some one is tripping, lol. Its not bad, just too busy and way throwback to the 70's. JMHO. I actually love the way the horse and rider is done.

On the other hand, a reminder of the 70s may be just what we need! no matter how subliminal

Cheri Prill designed it, I believe. Seems it was chosen from several entries, if memory serves correctly.

So I'm the only one that voted on liking it for its colorful, Contempo-abstract representation of the paso fino's multi-faceted, spiritually colorful playfulness with an acute slant on the post-modern impressionism thanks to the festive indigo tones? That the subtle violet tones imbue a rampant, contagious passion for the breed while retaining a bit of class- the variety of colors surrounding the Paso Fino putting it at the center- the reason FOR celebration?

The circumference is representative of a multi-cultural kaleidoscope. Your houndstooth-meets-herringbone rainbow depicts Latino-American influence on the subtler muted tones of pioneering American affluence- note the flourishes. Both are united by their use of the entire spectrum of color, and the most important feature for MY personal perspective is the obvious use of the color indigo, or "navy" on some browsers. Indigo is a very powerful color denoting intelligence, supersensory perception, versatility, and artistry. The bathing of the centerpiece- the Paso and ride- in a violetine light complements them both with aforementioned attributes.

To Monet it, it is representative of a blooming flower- or youth- or life. The American Paso Fino is still in it's developmental years, IMO, and it can only, with proper care, continue to flourish and grow- perennially, and perpetually.

Cool. I like it. I get it. Cheri rocks.

Kudos, Cheri, don't let the muggles get you down, I mean, it isn't like you actually get PAID to DO artwork FOR people, and all ;-) .

So, guys, where are your entries? Did we miss them? Post them so we can ... critique... them BWAHAHAHA ;-)

PS: Cheri is BIG and MEAN! I'd be scared to say too much! She tried to stab me with a butterknife at Angelina's, and totally shook me down for my lunch money! ;-)

I voted for it too...since you said it only got one (don't usually do the polls). I liked it...the horse looks like a Paso Fino, and I love the colors.

Good grief Crystal, make me feel guilty!!! I do like the way you explained it. But ya know, art is open to criticism and part of the joy of art is that not everyone agrees. I do like your description tho, makes it easier "to take". I don't mean any insult to Cheri, I am sure she is aware that any artist is going to have work that doesn't please every durned body on the planet and can deal with it. Sometimes the meaning of an artwork is more important than the appearance anyway.

The best thing about art is that it provokes thought, which, henceforth, initiates discussion, and, hopefully, enlightenment. Enlightenment provokes creativity, creativity begets art, and the circle is complete :D

Provoking thought is like dowsing for water in the desert sometimes though

We like it. It makes you feeeeel good to look at it. Like the rainbows formed on an oil slick when the sun strikes it at a certain angle. It has a hypnotic effect. But then maybe it's all the paint fumes we've been inhaling lately. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Finally a horse that actually resembles a Paso Fino. Yes it is definitely a throw back to the 70's, but then everythings comes back to haunt us, LOL! Personally I loved the late 60' early 70's. A time of change, but still a time of family values, not any where near like the world of today.

Kudos to the Show chair or whoever, for having a contest if that is what they did. I truly believe it is only fair to give our talented membership a chance to show what they can come up with.

BTW, was the flower a Dahlia? Very colorful!
