Thought I was up to this, but as I started typing I strated to tear up again.......here goes....

I had the unhappy trip to a funeral yesterday, my Step-fathers mother (Grandma to me as she WAS a grandma) passed away the day after Thanksgiving after suffering a stroke ast Wednesday. She passed away peacefully, God bless her she was 94, would have been 95 this Christmas Day.

Anywho - I decided to take Tori with me, knowing that she is very good in public places etc.....I also thought it was a good opportunity for her to see her 'cousins' etc.....well, we missed getting to the funeral home because I missed a turn, but made it to the church just after the service started. We walked in, poor Tori had only gotten about 5 minutes of sleep and was exhausted....what does she do? She starts playing with the hymnals, taking them out of the holder and puttng them back....bumped her head a few times, made a couple of small noises, but all in all played quietly during the service.

Today my Mom told me that when my Step-dad heard Tori, he immediately smiled......it's one of those things....how can you NOT smile when you hear a little 'coo' from a happy child?

Anywho, we proceeded to the cemetary and there Tori charmed everyone again......what really got to me though, was when after the ceremony, my Step-dad told me he teared up on the way over there, thinking about Tori and how she has a way of saying 'Where'd it go?' in her sweet little voice....as she holds her arms out, hands up and looks at you with a puzzled expression..........he was hearing 'Where'd SHE go?' as he thought of it................

Not that she will remember it (I will!), but I did take Tori to visit Great-grandma last year with my Mom, and for days afterward she would talk about the baby to the people at the home where she lived....she had Alzheimers' and couldn't remember her sons from one day to the next, but remembered the baby.......

How can some(one)thing so little bring so much JOY???

I am so sorry for your loss. Hold tight to your little treasure. They grow up so fast, it is important to write down times like this.

How sweet (about Tori). I tell everyone that having my girls has brought so much joy to my life. I have never smiled so much or laughed so much as I have in the past 3 years.

I am lucky....my Mom and Dad are retired. If the girls say or do something cute, I e-mail it to my Mom and Dad and they are typing up books of these events for the girls someday!

I'm not sure what was more beautiful about your story........

How much you love your now gone grandma...

how much you love your daughter...

how much you love your stepfather...

or the real appreciation you have for the important things in life.

We tend to get all wrapped up in work and projects. Sometimes we forget that the most important thing in life is the connections we have with each other.

Your daughter is one lucky kid. By example, you are teaching her how to love people openly and with appreciation. That's the greatest gift anyone could get. It's something you probably don't realize you're doing, but wow.....you do it well.

Lisa....I'm so sorry about your Grandma.

However, I loved that little Tori brought a smile to the people who were most in pain that day.....she's quite a charmer.
