Rosalita is 50 inches tall at the withers. That would be 12.2,correct?Would she be considered small, meduim,or large for a 10 month old?I am so small that it wouldn't matter if she never got past 13.2 but just kinda wondering.Moniece

yes..that is correct. If you want to know how tall she will be, wait until she is one year old and do the string test from ergot to elbow, and then holding the string at the elbow, raise it to where the wither will be when mature. This test is accurate to 1" plus or minus.... but you need take that measurement at one year or older.

They will grow as tall as they are "deep"...their legs will be as long as the distance from wither top, to chest floor when mature...

Here is Rita standing next to her mom, Sarafina.
Sarafina is 14HH exactly. Rita is now 14.1HH+ at 17 months of age in this photo. I fully expect Rita to be 14.3 or 15HH. Her sire is 15HH, and she is already taller than her mom.

I don't think Hurc is a very tall horse...how tall is Rosie's dam? You should be able to get a good idea from averaging both heights of dam & sire...

The lady that bought Rosa's mom sticked her last week at 15.1.I wish I knew Hurc's height.Rosa so far does not take after her mom at all.Maybe Polly or Sharon can tell us Hurc's height. As time has gone on I have come to really appreciate the small well gaited pasos.I almost kindof hope she will mature at around 13.2 or 13.3.I think Chica is 14hh and she is about the biggest I think i'd like anymore but then you know how I am about Rosa, whatever size or shade she ends up will be the perfect one LOL.Thanks Terry!!Your friend,Moniece

Hurc was either 14 or 14.1 hands. Sharon will have to double check that one. Cola was 14.2 and since she was full grown when you purchased her that's about as tall as she should get. Where are some of these measuring sticks coming from? I seriously doubt that Cola is 15.1.
I'd guess Rosa would hit 14 or 14.1...somewhere in the middle. If that's too tall for you let me know I'll take her.
Love those yeller horses.

Maybe she measured Cola wrong.I sold her as being 14.2 or 14.3 like you and John thought when I called to ask so she can't get mad at me if she finds Cola is not that big.LOL Polly, that little blonde drama queen of mine isn't going anywhere. She is with me for life,I don't believe I could ever sell her at ANY price. How is her palomino brother turning out?Has the new owner sent you updates and pictures of him as he's grown?Any way to put me intouch with them so we could discuss and compare the two?Your friend,Moniece

Moniece I too love the small ones and keep getting big ones!! Our last four and all our babies are tall. I don't know how a 13 2 mom and a 14 hand mom can produce a son taller than either but Brilliant is still growing and all legs and so is Adriel who is still growing. My rule is - if I can't jump on the horse bareback with no mounting block the horse is too tall!!! That leaves us with only two who are my desired height!!! But of course I ride the others but my babies are the shorter ones!! ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) Hopefully Rosa won't be a giant anyway. She is soo gorgeous!!!!!

Moniece-I will PM you with Danza's owner's e-mail address. You will just love Kimberly. She is going to be gelding Danza though. Kim's mom is sick and she's afraid the "boys" will escape and visit the neighbor's horses while she's taking care of her mom. She just sent me a video but John hooked up a Video disc player and now I can't get the VCR to work. When we get the wires sorted out I'll let you know how he looks and whether he's really golden or not. BTW we have all joined an Arkansas riding group called Cowgirl Up. They ride twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday) when weather permits. You might want to join up as well. They go a lot of neat places and it's fun to ride in a group.
