ELECTION OF OFFICERS:

The Paso Fino Horse Association will elect its officers for the 2007/2008 term during the Membership Convention in New Orleans on January 20, 2007. To be eligible to vote you must have a current PFHA membership and be a member in good standing, at least 18 years old as of September 1st, 2006 (the first day of the current show year). In order to vote, or have your vote represented, your membership must be current on both December 21, 2006 AND January 20, 2007. Now is the time to check the expiration date of your membership. If it expires on or between these two dates, and you want your voice to be heard, you must renew your membership now. If you wish to vote absentee an Absentee Ballot is available on the Association WEB site and in the December issue of PFHW. Your absentee ballot must be IN THE ASSOCIATION OFFICE by January 10, 2007 (Faxes and E-mails are not acceptable) and be completely filled out to be counted.

Can you do the absentee ballot if you belong to an region?

I think, that one candidate is hoping for members to vote absentee instead of letting the votes go completely with the regions. A few days ago, we received absentee ballots along with a sheet of a candidate stating qualifications.

:(

I never get any of these unsolicited goodies! How come? No emails, no postal mail, nothing.

Maybe you're in the wrong region. ;) Southern Regional doesn't split votes.

Isn't Rosanne Geumer an official canidate for Tresurer or something? or just a write in?

Her name wasn't on the absentee ballot. There are lines for write-ins. What are the rules regarding write-ins? Do people have to check before writing in candidates or is it just a lost vote if the person doesn't accept?

Rosanne is now a candidate for treasurer. She was kind of a late entry but she is on the ballot.

You can write in anybody. I actually got a write in vote last election for VP, don't know who did it.

Thanks, Cindy! It was not on the one, that I received. Maybe it was mailed early.

I already wrote-in my daddy for President of the US. He's the greatest man I know, but he did not win! This year, I voted for my daughter for senator. Apparently not enough did though. I didn't want anyone to think I just missed one when I didn't like any of the candidates.

So since you said Southern Regional doesn't split votes, does that mean you can't do the absentee ballot?

Sorry, but all this stuff confuses the heck out of me.

The candidate's info that came with the ballot is for a write in I think.

Bonnie, anyone can do an absentee ballot. The reason you write your region affiliate on the ballot is so PFHA remembers to remove your vote from your region. Absentee ballots are the way AROUND regions that don't split votes.

IMO every region SHOULD split votes according to their membership choices. What is the point of a "Membership Meeting" if the region is too lazy (or likes thier power too much, or the delegate thinks they KNOW better then their members) to solicit the member's choices. I don't think the word "delegate" applies to these dictators.

You know, change really has to START in your region. Go to your region's meeting, INSIST they split the votes. If they don't, get a rule change in your by-laws where they have to. And them saying "you can always vote absentee" is NOT the answer. A split vote is done based on the percentage of members who voted one way..and then ALL the votes in the region are split with that percentage. As an example, if you have 100 votes in your region and 50 people show up to vote at your meeting, half of them voting NO on a motion. Then 50% of your votes should be "no" This represents the demographics of the whole region and doesn't give the delegate ALL the votes of those who don't attend.

MG's, I don't think so! The person, whose qualification sheet came with the ballot, is on it. I think that person is trying to get more votes through absentee ballots.

ok I am not wanting to be a rumor monger..but is it true that on eof the candidates (one who I got a letter from) was once suspended from PFHA? I have no idea if its true and if so what it was for I just overheard someone say it..Is that something you can call the PFHA and ask? Will they tell you??

Am not sure if PFHA should even give out that type of information. Once a person is off suspension, aren't they now a member of good standing? Slate cleaned?

I am interested that anyone who is currently suspended not be voted in!
