Thank you so much for sharing those. I have added them to my collection. I once had an outstanding photo of Mr. Lorentz on Volare in front of their gate. They sent it to me many, many years ago. It has gone missing. I also had one that I sent out in the mail to a 'friend' that showed Volare's famous mane. That one was never returned. I would love to find another Volare bred horse.

Nice pics of Volare! He was very pretty. Horrible that he had to go that way!

I have a couple horses with the Volare line through Bolero LaCE (Volare x Morena). My stallion is a great grandson of Volare though his grandsire Bolero LaCE. He has a very thick beautiful mane and forelock (maybe comes from the Volare line?) Here's a picture of my Frost showing his gorgeous locks.....

Just a little interesting info on Bolero LaCE.....

Bolero LaCE

Double Foundation Sire

Bolero LaCE is one of the 6 foundation sires of the Paso Fino Horse breed.

He was a magnificent black stallion born in Puerto Rico and owned and shown by the Figueroa family. He was imported to the USA in 1968 to be used as a breeding stallion being he had been terribly foundered prior to leaving Puerto Rico. Bolero made an unbelieveable recovery and returned to the show ring in 1969 to become the National Champion Classic Fino and National Champion Conformation Paso Fino.

In 1988 Bolero received the Merit of Honor and the induction to the Hall of Fame along with 3 other horses from the United States. Later that year he was designated as a foundation sire of the Paso Fino Horse Association and the Pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino Federation of America, Inc.

During the last days of life , Bolero's gallant heart would not let him give in to his failing and aged body. He was put to rest on December 26, 1991.

His individual excellence and influence on the Paso Fino breed has been unsurpassed, living on through his offspring............

There is a picture of Bolero on my website www.ironhorsepuertoricanpasos.com (can't get it to post on here)

That Frost is just a dream horse. Could he BE any more gorgeous?
The mane and tail probably did come from Volare. My mare...a Volare daughter...had a very thick, long mane and tail. Her son that I have now has a big fat thick tail like your Frost.

Thank you Linda.......what do you think of this picture of Frost? I've had so many people ask me if I braided his mane to get those beautiful waves. This is all natural and underneath it is actually sort of curly where it comes out at the root. Not easy to maintain because as soon as you get it all brushed out he will throw his head and mess it up! I am really beginning to think he does this so you will brush it again......he loves to be groomed so much.

At least you can see his eye in this one!

Nope you aren;t too far from us here in PA! Frost is a real sweatheart and loves the ladies! ;-)

Mel.......you are gonna shoot your eye out! You better be careful! I am serious......my husband shot his brother in the eye with his beebee gun when he got it for Christmas as a child! It turned out OK thought the beebee went in and out and didn't casue any real damage to the eye.....they were lucky.

I have only owned Frost for about a year. From what pictures and facts I have gathered from Frost's previous owners his offspring are wonderful. One of the girls here on the forum has had a couple of his babies (one of them is called Chance and I think her name is palominolover). She says they have beauty, gait, sweet temperament and inteligence..........a nice sounding package!

Being Frost is a chocolate palomino the colors he produces are stunning. Bonnie Cannon told me his babies are gone as soon as they are on the ground or before. I have people asking me for his offspring or if I know of any for sale.

I found a woman from VA a 2 year old ppr palomino colt out of Frost ( Shannonwood Andi de Oro). She was interested in a baby out of him for quite some time. This woman breeds almost 100% Columbian Pasos. Since she got Andi she is asking me for another ppr paso like him! She said he just loves him and even at his young age he is doing wonderful. She did geld him to use him for her main trail horse. Now her husband wants a ppr paso like Andi! She also saw the video I posted of "Cale's Helado Oro" and was impressed by his speed. She told me he may be the bloodline she is looking for in her breeding program!

I have a foal coming out of Frost in july of 2007. This baby will be ppr and hopefully palomino. We bred a chestnut pr mare to him and that will give you a 50/50 chance of getting a palomino. Of course the half is chestnut. I am anxious to see this baby and to get some more mares bred to him.

We do have quite a few mares lined up to breed to Frost next year. He is just getting out in the show circuit so I guess that is why not many people were aware of such a fine stallion. Pretty much been a breeding stallion his whole life so it really amazes me that I could take him to a show and he was so calm for me. His temperament is simply phenominal!

Anyway i'm starting to sound like a commercial so here's a couple pics of his offspring....

" Shannonwood Andi de Oro" (Cale's Helado Oro x Fiera del Paso) 2004 ppr colt

Here's a beautiful mare out of Frost.....this mare is 15 hands tall! She is gorgeous.........."Abril Rosita de Oro" (Cale's Helado Oro x Cale's Uno Abril)

Just and example of what this guy is producing.......if you want to see more you can visit my website at http://home.earthlink.net/~ironhrse/ . You can also see more of Frost on there...

I HAVE a PPR mare, and she is perlino. BUT she is foundered and I just don't know if I can take the chance. Plus, she is 16 years old and a maiden mare. It is a real shame...she has great conformation and a wonderful temperment. Great granddaughter of Guamani, too.

Hey I don't blame you Linda. I don't really know what risk factors there would be with the founder and being pregnant but her age and being maiden may present a problem with AI.

Her bloodlines are very nice. She looks to be PR but some of the lines I'm not familiar with.

I lost my favorite PR mare this past April. It wasn't really becasue of the foal but her resistance was lower becasue she had a nursing baby and I wonder if I hadn't bred her if she would have recovered from the pneumonia. I love the filly she left me(she is an awesome palomino sweetie and a lot like her)but I sure do wish she were still here.........so hard to lose your "children".

I bred my maiden mare when she was 15, she took on the first try.

Several years ago, we bred a client's mare to Rojo Tejas that was seventeen years old. This mare had only had one previous foal at 11. Several years before we had bred her, she had severely foundered in both front feet. Now the client told me that she had had an 18 degree rotation in one hoof. That seems extreme...I am thinking he meant more like 8 but either is not good. They dilligently and carefully nursed this mare back to health and at the time that we bred her she had no indication at all that she had foundered. She subsequently delivered a normal healthy foal, in fact, he is coming here after the first of the year to go under saddle!
So just because a mare has foundered does not mean she can't be bred, I just would recommend careful feeding and observance of her weight so that she doesn't get extremely obese.
As far as Frost...well...I'm already in line! ;-) 8-) :D

Carol good to hear from you again.... thanks for the info about the older and foundered mares. Mel thanks for your input also......

Marci.....some lines are very prepotent and traits can be seen many generations back. I haven't seen much info on Volare or pics of him and was interested in finding out about these lines.

I hope someone else has some insight on Volare...like what kind of gait he had or did he have a show career? I never knew he was famous for his mane....that was something I learned from this thread. I wonder what other traits he was known for..........anyone?

Volare was Fino Fino. He was an undefeated champion in PR, but was never shown here. He was imported by Fred Green. The Lorentz's bought him at the same time that I bought his daughter, Cuca Volar. When we purchased them, Fred was in North Dakota. He subsequently moved the horses by tractor trailer...he had a bunch of them...to Oklahoma and then to Texas. Lorentz's had a shipper pick Volare up, and we drove from Missouri to pick up Cuca.
Volare had a very thick mane that came almost to his knees...it was simply gorgeous. But in all his transports, not the best care was taken of him and his mane got knotted up. Someone took it on themselves to cut it off pretty short.
Lorentz's told me that Volare had a wonderful disposition and an incredible smooth gait. His daughter inherited it...I have yet to ride one as smooth as she was.

Does anyone know Volare Maid - daughter of Volare? She was a buckskin.
My Valor was a Volare grand son on his dams side, and a Maria Luisa grand son on his sires side...I always wondered which side he got his incredibly smooth gait from.
I have always looked for a horse with the Maria Luisa lines - but maybe I am missing out on the Volare lines. I have not seen them around much.

That colt does have personality AND beauty and gait.
That photo was taken last year at barbara nichol's farm in PA
The colt is a Toledo great grandson and his grand dam is none other than "Maria Juana B" aka Stormy, one of Barb's prized broodmares.
