Butter flavored crisco on a rawhide jaquima....seal in a bag and put in a hot place..like a closed up car or in the winter I put on a heat duct..

I've had my jaquima for 5 yrs. I've soaked it, rubbed it, heated it up in a bag...all the little tricks and its still as hard as a rock. I mostly wanted to stretch it out a little because its too small. Finally I cut off the browband, and I bet it would fit if my paso wasn't so terrorized by the mere presence of it. I can put it on the other horses without incident..even the never been trained one. I bet if the dog would chew on it (like she does everything else) that would soften it up. ;-)

it's going to be soft...the neets foot oil is still seeping out and dripping  ...i've wiped it dry four times....it's hanging on a hook close to da fireplace...been testing..it is pliable...i've never really liked the feel of the hand stitching ...too course!!, but even it's smoother :!:
wonder how long it's gonna bleed oil :confused :?:

I'm with CAM. I sold all mine. I like nice, soft, cured, English leather. Preferably nice harness leather finished on both sides.

I put all mine in neatsfoot oil one time. I will never do that again. It will bleed that stuff for years. And I did not soak it like you did. Lard is the best thing for them. If it gets too obnoxious you could try rinsing it good or even soaking in water for a while and then put the lard on. The neatsfoot oil drove me crazy for a long time. Be carefull when it is wet though as it will get really mushing and loose it's shape.

I rubbed mine down a few times with extra virgin olive oil because someone told me to. Turned out nice. Looks dirty after using it for several years, but it is soft. At least I think it's soft. I have nothing in rawhide to compare it to. :confused
