Very nice horse, but always the bride's maid never the bride. I can't remember how many reserve championships in fino this horse won but it was allot. Always consistent and in gait. He had a tendency to be too open in the rear and sometimes a little pacey, but I liked this horse allot.

I saw an Andante mare many years ago that was fantastic fino. She was in training in Ocala and was very very good. I don't think she ever competed. I've seen only a handful of offspring (young), but I liked most of them. They all had nice temperaments and gait.

I've seen Andante 3/4 times and ridden him on two occasions.
He was 6 times reserve champion

He was so heavy on the board it sounded like he would knock a hole in it.
A bit tough mouthed, had to seesaw the bit a little to keep him collected, but what a power house and a joy to ride and handle.

Never has produced as good as he is, but few of the good ones have.

I happen to disagree with his production. I have seen him produce better than he is, better than his sire with consistency. I would not hesitate with this horse. I have seen him improve on mares that were not great at all.

The offspring I've seen were powerhouses and VERY GOOD. Many could have/were/still are competitive to this day. They simply were not shown. Out of mares that you would not expect that type of production.

Good brios, good color, good size, but he had the Plebeyo rear end that was too open and tended to squat.

As to his mouth, that would be training not the horse himself. I have seen him badly ridden many times.

I think it is the American mistake to think that just because offspring do not make the same mark in the showring that the horse is not producing. That should not be the measure. I don't know of many Adante offspring (his best) that were shown.

He was later sold to some people that did not market him well at all and the horse lost his share of interested people in him.

The Chucuano line is interesting to me because I've seen horses that I thought were very laid back, tolerant and forgiving BUT I've seen inbred Chucuano horses that were high-strung, intolerant, and too sensitive with their tempers. I've heard many blame it to tracing back to Caribe that was a horse with a bad temper. I think because of so much inbreeding it's hit or miss and you have to look at each horse to know for sure.

Hilachas did not always produce the most tolerant offspring either and he had some intelligence. Not to say all were like that. I've seen some Hilachas stock that were very sweet and very tolerant, but I'd give that to the mare influence.

Horses like this need good handling from the beginning or they might wise up and write off the human race. Could be Quito did not benefit from thoughtful handling in the beginning. Some horses need positive interaction at a young age or at least neutral inteference. Horses like this demand thoughtful, forgiving, and intelligent interaction from their humans or they may not repsond the way the handler expects. They need an opportunity to make mistakes and not be reprimanded for being flawed in their interpretation or "try" to please. These horses are at a higher level and should be respected because of it. Fear can't play in their world because they detect and are suspect. They want a confident, quiet, resourceful handler. Anything less doesn't rate well.

But I guess you already know all about this from what I can tell from your posts. ;-) I suspect that Quito is watching you watching him.

The horses I've seen by Andante were very "chucuano" in their attitudes. Generally very active, alert, too sensitive with brios. That type of horse takes some time for them to learn how to handle themselves. Andante, himself did not strike me like that, but then it's been a while and my memory may not be 100% on this.

you hit that on the head..........i've turned our sessions into just relaxing together, i hang my chin over his neck and lean on him till he has to move..
i'm showing him he can relax and i'm learning it as well....it's good medicine for both of us !!!!
i can twirl a lead rope fast over his ears now, i set his feed bucket on his back......all kinds of things he's learning to tolerate.......
his facial and eye expressions have changed also.............
he's pretty well mannered as he waits for peremission to walk thru the corral gate and other things!
i'll keep it low key and relaxed.
thanks candice, your a world of help and knowledge

When I rode Andante, I found him extremely well trained, easy to handle, no nonsense type, and a real worker. I did not find bad temperment at all in him.

I really like the horse, I gave some consideration to buying him and if I had not already had Pooh, I probably would have.

What a power house.

Its La Deuda... I don't know why the "mis-print"..that is how it ran in the PFH World in 1989... probably just an oversight...

Terry,
Your photo's are not visable to me, can you help?

I have a grandson of his, thru his son Anhelante (Res.Nat Champ BF). My gelding takes after his dam & looks to have an awesome largo. He is a "take it all in stride" type. NOTHING bothers him, though he will stomp small animals (cats, chickens, etc).

I own a son of Andante that is a Reserve National Champion Pleasure Stallion (El Comandante Bien Vee). I believe it was 2 years ago (maybe sooner) I located Andante - he was still being offered to service outside mares. I would have to look it up again but he is in one of the southern states (AL, GA).
