My boarder has taught her horse to fly backwards out of the trailer. Not intentially but Maggie has learned that if she comes out fast Eileen will let go of the rope and head for cover. I have worked and worked with Eileen on this and if maggie acts up I will take the lead and all will be back to normal within a few minutes.
Well Eileen has went and hired herself a local premier trainer to teach her and Maggie to unload lady like. They were out their for more than an hour working with Maggie when things began to sound as if it may be getting a little dangerous so I went out to see what was going on. Each time Maggie came flying out she would turn and look at me and I swear she had a grin on her face. The fourth time she did it I stomped on the ground and yelled GET UP IN THERE. She jumped back in the trailer, looked back at me, I'm a good 40ft away, as if to say whats that for. She then stepped out nice and quite. The trainer reloaded and unloaded her 3 times before I left, each time nice and quite.
It sounds like there back to square one once again. He HE HE HE

LOL Boyd. I think it is pretty obvious that Maggie has chosen her "trianer." These intelligent horses do that.

Maggie is one of those people whisperers Carol. She dont need no training just a person she don't feel superior to.

A stallion chain is NOT the way to go with her!!! This is not a Maggie problem but a handler problem. Please do NOT let them force her...it won't work.

out of my hands Carol and I agree 100%. They finally got her behaving by putting the stallion chain on her in a way call ?????bonnett. He left she prettied maggie up and tried it again. Not possitive but it sounded like the same old thing.

by the way I have told her to get back in the arena and get back to the basics of leading her. but she dont listen. And shooot Maggie gets so much enjoyment out of getting her dander up. It really is fun to watch them interact. Jb and Lisa pull up a chair whenever she gets here to watch the show. I will have to keep an eye on her to make sure she don't get Maggie hurt.

War bonnet?
I don't know how you can watch something like that. I may have to jerk a knot in someone.

That is it a war bonnet. I was only outside for a few minutes that I talked of above. If she does anything to hurt Mags she will be told to find someone else to board from

You know, I don't claim to know everything there is to know about horses...but the deeper I get into this business...the more I find out how LITTLE some people really know about them... :-?

Poor Maggie. She is a wonderful, sensitive horse. Obviously beyond Eileen's capabilities. Obviously Eileen needs some brain dead saw horse.
Maggie doesn't need a stud chain, war bonnet, OR a big name professional abuser. Maggie just needs someone with horse sense.
Please don't let them abuse Maggie. That would just break my heart. Some people should be shot.

The more I think about Maggie in this situation the sadder I am. Maybe you should call PETA before the two of them kill her.

Has she considered a fork lift?
Seriously pitiful. You never win a fight with a horse. You'd think a trainer would know that. Six men tried to load our 13 2 Chinook into a trailer. They did not succeed and it took us another two years to get her over the trauma she suffered from the event. She loads like a dream now thank goodness.
Good luck Boyd. Sounds like you need to smack a knot on someone's head and that someone isn't the horse!!!

The thing about Mags Carol is she is smarter then both of them put together. She won't let them hurt her, she will yeild to their stupidity but only when it is time. I have that confidence in her or I would be standing gaurd. In a way this is good for both of them. Eileen has got to this pointe because she is to timid with Mags and Mags exploits that fact for amusement. And truly does. She makes Eileen do things till she gets it right. If Eileen would only look to herself and be able to learn from her mistakes instead of repeating the same mistakes over and over Maggie could teach her to be a good horseman.

Eileen isn't who I'm worried about. I think she cares enough for Maggie to stop before she hurts her. It's the professional abuser. I've seen some of these ruin horses, especially when their pride/ego is at stake. I've even heard of them KILLING horses they were supposed to be training (and then blame it on the "bad" horse). And I have SEEN forced trailer loading go bad, and the horse was being drug into the trailer, slipped and went under the trailer, broke its leg and had to be put down.
Eileen needs horemanship lessons for Christmas.

I agree with Carol. I have seen/had too many of these smart horses that were literally ruined by bad trainers who tried to force them into submission. If Maggie is that smart, she will soon learn that maybe being dangerous will get her some relief, at least for a while.
Why won't Eileen listen to you and your suggestions?? Didn't you accomplish the same goal without force?
Sounds like it isn't the horse that needs training.

How do you know this horse, Carol????
CarolU

I knew this horse when Kim owned her. She is I believe, double Favorito. She is one of those horses that will definately fight if forced, but if you earn her trust, she'll follow you through fire.

Maggie to her credit never fights when forced she will argue but knows when to draw the line. Well except for worming time. That is another story. Going into the trailer is not an issue she bolts out on Eileen.
Linda I am not sure why she does not listen or if the 60s were just to wild and wooly for her. For what ever reason she seems to have a problem at grasping things. It took her a year to get accomplished at putting a halter on.
Now for the "trainer" like I said I was only out there for a few minutes. While I was there he did nothing dangerous, He was actually doing a good job at showing Eileen how to get her to move her front and or rear. And a lot of the basics. Which to me should go back to the arena. I am going to assume he felt he was being hired for a specific goal and was addressing that goal rather than the root of the problem. Though Eileen admitted that he told her the problem is with her and not Maggie.
The stud chain and or bonnet came after my short visit. Why?? I don't know other than to give Eileen more ability to get her pointe across to Maggie, Remember she broke her shoulder and coller bone within the last two years.
But again I did not even have to touch her to get what I asked for and every ride I go on with Eileen I end up having to make Maggie reload and unload correctly before leaving the trailer and each time I accomplish this with body and voice.
We will see how things progress this weekend.

Who? Maggie or Eileen?
Sounds like this lady needs another horse...one without an independant thought or the desire to express it. She is the lady who has been through a couple horses already? I shouldn't talk, but I at least KNOW my limitations and won't subject the horse.

Maggie has Eblis twice and Hilachas three times on her sire side . She always wanted everything her way or she would put up a fight . Eilain needs to listen to Boyd and learn to do things the way Maggie likes them
done and she won't have any fights from her .

this is Eileens first horse. And this is not a love hate relationship. This is like mother and a smart alick teenage daughter. Maggie truelly loves to get under Eileens skin. Maggie would do anything for her momma but if she can get a chuckle out of it she will. There arguements are more "no do it like this" rather than "No I am not" If you can picture what I am getting at. It is histarichal.
