I actually prefer a Birch stick horse.
However, you wanna stay away from the Son-of-a-Birch stick horses... ;-) I prefer to ride the mares, though due to their nature, they can sometimes be a real birch to get along with.

Earlito is always welcome here. :hug But I look forward to the day I see him w/his very own genuine Paso Smile again.
I know how frustrating it is here in Fla to find a good trainer that meets your needs and understands you....I can only imagine how difficult it is in other places where there is a lot less selection to choose from. :-?
Earl needs himself a good o'l Amante type horse. 8-) He sure is worth his weight in GOLD.

Earl,
someone must have a laid back paso that they would trade with you,
whats the one you have now?

Paso's are such wonderful horses. People don't realize what a disservice they are doing to the breed when they mismatch the horse to the rider. I have seen it happen and it's a real shame...

Thanks, Lori, I will tell him you said that. Oh, and if anyone wants to trade me his weight in gold, I suppose I could give him up. The line forms to the left.

Earl we're sorry your trainers are lousy and your pasos, uncooperative. I think you need a mare myself. They take care of you. Somewhere out there . . . . . :hug :hug

Ya know what Earl? You have been through enough with those horses, the next time you go looking, you will find exactly what you want. If you sit down and make a list of the problems you encountered on one side of the paper, and then for each one, write down what you want to do that will help you feel that this won't be a problem, for instance:
1. Way too herd bound: must be able to ride SOLO without having a fuss.
2. Spooking at who knows what: must be able to tolerate all kinds of silly stuff waved around him, trees being shaken by you while you are out riding (this may take a few tree shakes to ascertain - and it will show you that the horse learns to trust quickly)
3. Horse can trust new human quickly - see #2.
and I'm sure you can think of more - get specific! If a seller thinks you are bonky for having a list like this, well they haven't got the horse for you anyway.
DO NOT buy the first horse you fall in love with - look seriously at the ones you feel confident on, 100% confident. The "love" will come later. My first paso, Katy, I got because I had had a serious wreck on another horse and my confidence was really blown. I didn't "love" Katy, she was stoic, unemotional, but a horse that I felt really safe on, her work ethics were impeccable, her trail sense was great, even though she was technically green, she was just a good horse. It took a long time to really fall in love with her, and for her to open up. It was worth the wait. We turned out to develop a vulcan mind meld type relationship that is priceless.

Geez, I got a 16 year old good size Paso gelding right here on the farm that would be perfect for a man. He don't NEED no trainer. He's good to go NOW. Know what people tell me...he's too OLD. sheesh! I give up...

I'd also do a lease with a return option because a horse can be great on its home grounds and really bad when you move it. And by the way - a mini is a great companion for a paso and they are sooo easy to keep and a good sized one can pull you in a cart easily. They are quite amazing and very independent.

i'm not blamin the horses...it's the show trainers..selling culls and half training them, in my case i'm not big enough to be important enough for the full monty.......i can't book and buy enough training.........my horses have been pushed out for bigger ranches that could improve the trainers
standings in his ego trip...buildin a reputation ya know !!!!
if i keep ultimo i'll have to send him to a quarter horse trainer and he'll learn what SPURS are for

Well...let's see...I saw this gelding when the current owner had him on her own place a week...and he was perfect...
Now we've had him here for two weeks ...and he's perfect....hmmm...I'd say he's a good horse!
(Price has come down too, I'm gonna post another adjustment to my classifieds ad here after I finish cleaning pens! ;-) )
Here's his pic, Earl, just to whet your appetite... ;-)
