I had promised a friend I would go riding with her this morning. She has a cute little 4 yr old Paso filly and we always have good time. But things started getting a little weird. 1st she was going to come here (she lives about 40 minutes away) Then, because of a bout of insomnia last night she didn't feel safe hauling a trailer. Then I was going to go there, but there were construction crews ripping up the road in front of her house so riding outta there might have been tricky. Then she decided we should meet at the state park near her house.
It was a warm morning so it seemed like a good idea. I loaded up Mico and looked suspiciously at the sky, it wasn't supposed to rain. I pull into the parking look, had a huge fight with the machine that is supposed to take my dollars to park. Guess my dollars aren't good enough. I then noticed my friend, who should have beat me there by at least 25 minutes wasn't there. I call her. She can't get her horse on the trailer. Sooo, I unload Mico between the rain drops and start to tack up while I wait. 1/2 an hour goes by, she still can't get her horse on the trailer. I am standing in the parking lot in the rain, with my horse saddled with my good leather saddle in a park I don't know my way around. Last time I was there Abbey, Kim and I got hopelessly lost. 3rd call. No go on the trailer and even if she got on the constuction crews had blocked her road.
Right about that time a couple of trailers pulled in. I talked with the ladies and they said I was more than welcome to "tag along' with them. Well, not a complete loss. They start unloading and out come 3 16 or 17 hand thoroughbred/hanoverian/appendix types. Mico, when his feet are long and he is standing on tip toes can hit 14 hands. They commented on what a cute pony I had. I said "he is a paso fino" they just looked blank and one of them said "oh, I think I know what that is, does he do that running walk thing?" I started to explain, but they really weren't interested. I tagged along, but definitely felt like I was riding a mini. But Mico, bless his heart, is all heart, kept up and stayed in gait for the most part. And when they galloped he ran right with them.
But then I started to wonder why Mico was all sweated and their horses weren't. It was a warm morning and it dawned on me, he looked very shaggy. Their horses looked like it was the middle of summer. Well, groomed and most likely always blanketed. I am sure they thought Mico and I were real weirdos. But I think I'll keep my big hearted cute pony.
To give them credit, all there horses were very well behaved and good trail horses. [/i]
