There could very well be something I don't know, but why would anyone name a horse El Feo? It's sounds so insulting!

People give horses weird names all the time. I know a few named Barbie, Coca Cola, Guitarra (guitar), Chavez (venezuelan president), Pavito Navideno ( little christmas turkey), Rock and Roll, but never a name that could be used to insult people though

Weird names are okay, but feo?

We had a friend who bought a pony named Buddy. Her vet called him "Butt Ugly".

Maybe he was an ugly foal. Newborns really are pretty ugly - all floppy and skinny and legs everywhere. But those beautiful faces and eyes make up for it!

I got to ride him while Showtime owned him. 8-) AWESOME horse.

Anyway, I asked the same question. They said it was more like a term of affection, like when they call someone gordo or gordito which means fat. We find it insulting, but they find it more like a term used when you are family.
More than likely he was an ugly foal and joke of the farm was that he was the ugly duckling that blossomed into a great horse. ;-) I guess the nickname from his youth stuck. :lol:

Yes, this is true! I forgot about that.

A couple of years ago I was taking a Spanish conversation class. The teacher was Colombian, and she mentioned that "gordita" and similar names are terms of affection! No one gets insulted.

I think I would have some serious issues if my nickname was gordita. :shock:
